Is Monster Hunter Wilds Open World

Monster Hunter Wilds features large areas with seamless quest and story gameplay similar to open world games. See if Monster Hunter Wilds is open world in this guide!

Is Monster Hunter Open World?

No, But It is the Biggest and Most Open Yet

Monster Hunter Wilds - Not an Open World

While Monster Hunter Wilds is not an open-world game in the traditional sense, it features large, seamless areas and a smooth flow between story, quests, and the base camp. This makes the game the largest and most open Monster Hunter experience to date.

One feature new to Monster Hunter Wilds that contributes to its openness are the Base Camps located within each locale, giving each location their own Hub.

There will, however, be a central Gathering Hub that will be added to the game during the upcoming Title Update 1.

Windward Plains

Scarlet Forest

Oilwell Basin

Iceshard Cliffs

Ruins of Wyveria

Currently, there are five different announced locales. These locations are separate from each other and have different Base Camps. Each of these locales have different weather and environmental effects that will drastically change how they look and how monsters interact with the environment.

Not Open World Multiplayer Either

Monster Hunter Wilds - Not an Open World Multiplayer

Monster Hunter Wilds features 100-player lobbies where players can freely interact with each other at Base Camps, as well as the upcoming Gathering Hub called the Grand Hub. However, players cannot just freely join you on your hunts. Similar to past games, players will have to post quests that others can then join.

You can change several Quest Settings so that you can play solo with the option to hunt with NPC Support Hunters, with a Link Party, or any player in the lobby!
