Main Objectives

Investigate the Gypceros at Zatoh’s Request

1	Talk to Zatoh in the central area of Kunafa Village in Area 1 of the Windward Plains to start this quest. Zatoh may stay in his house if the weather is unfavorable, so it is recommended that you change the weather if this happens to get him to go outside.
2	Hunt a Gypceros in the Windward Plains to fulfill Zatoh's request. The Gypceros can be found wandering in Areas 1 and 3, and can only be seen during the Fallow weather. Check the map and go to the environment overview to see if Gypceros is on the list of active monsters. ┣ Change the Weather to Fallow ┗ Initiate a Field Survey Quest or Investigation ▶︎ Monster Hunt: Gypceros

Talk to Zatoh in the central area of Kunafa Village in Area 1 of the Windward Plains to start this quest. Zatoh may stay in his house if the weather is unfavorable, so it is recommended that you change the weather if this happens to get him to go outside.

Hunt a Gypceros in the Windward Plains to fulfill Zatoh's request. The Gypceros can be found wandering in Areas 1 and 3, and can only be seen during the Fallow weather. Check the map and go to the environment overview to see if Gypceros is on the list of active monsters.

Change the Weather to Fallow

Gypceros will only spawn during Fallow and will not spawn in any other weather conditions. Set the weather to this state by resting in your camp for Gypceros to spawn on the map.

How to Change the Weather

Initiate a Field Survey Quest or Investigation

The quest requirements for the Gypceros hunt can be met by either a Field Survey Quest or an Investigation. Both work essentially the same in terms of completing this part of the quest, and both will count as long as the Gypceros is captured or killed.

You can choose to do a Field Survey quest now if you just want to get it done as soon as possible, or an Investigation if you want to do the hunt later, or do repeated hunts.

Report Back to Zatoh

1	Return to Zatoh in the central area of Kunafa Village in Area 1 of the Windward Plains to report your findings regarding your encounter with the Gypceros.

Gypceros Fight Tips
Gypceros can blind the player, similar to a flashbug. Do enough damage to its head to prevent it from using this attack. Gypceros' ability to inflict Poison Status can be quite problematic if not dealt with immediately. Bring Antitodes to counter this effect. The vertical reach of its tail is deceptively long. Dodge to the side when it uses this attack.

Monster Hunter Wilds - Yian Kut-Ku
This quest is unlocked after you capture Yian Kut-Ku in the New Ecosystems quest in Chapter 4 in the Scarlet Forest. After finishing the cutscene, talk to Zatoh at Kunafa village to start this quest.

Other than the chapter requirement you will need to encounter the target monster, Gypceros, once. It's not necessary to beat them. You can find unkown monsters by opening the map and looking for monster icons that are marked as ?????.

Hello! We've updated our guide to clarify that you should hunt Gypceros on Fallow weather only during Evening and Night on Windward Plains Areas 1 and 3. Hope this helps! :)
