Nu Udra's weak spot becomes available after it does its Multi-Slam attack. Use Focus Strike on Nu Udra's mouth after this attack for a chance to topple Nu Udra.
Remember that in High Rank, this move no longer gives a guaranteed topple.
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike
It's best to fight Nu Udra head on instead of flanking it as it's easier to read its attacks from the front. Resorting to this strategy not only lessens your chances of being hit by stray attacks, it also helps you learn the monster's moveset.
Focusing on the arms is the best way to fight Nu Udra as these are the easiest parts to reach. Additionally, it grants a better field of view on Nu Udra's telegraphs, allowing you to react faster to its attacks. This also has an upside of severing the arms, giving you an extra carve for each of the six arms you sever!
You can swap your focus to Nu Udra's head or mouth once you bring it down.
Blunt, Sever, and Shot: Weapon Damage Types Explained
If you're burned by Nu Udra's attacks, you can roll three times to remove the fireblight. This is often more favorable than using Nulberries as the rolling method does not require you to sheathe your weapon.
Fireblight Status Ailment Explained
When Nu Udra ignites itself, you can douse the flame on its tentacles by using Puddle Pods. Dousing the flame will weaken some of Nu Udra's attacks. Puddle Pods can be gathered from Watermoss that are mainly found on Area 14 of Oilwell Basin.
Puddle Pod Location: How to Get and Uses
| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Ignite | Nu Udra's head will glow blue before covering its entire body with flames. This will enhance its tentacle moves with added flame damage. You can douse the flames with Puddle Pods. |
| Multi Slam | Nu Udra raises its body and slams it towards your direction. Run to the side of Nu Udra to avoid any incoming damage from the tentacles that slam. In High Rank, Nu Udra can do this move twice consecutively, with a varying delay on each slam. You can counter this move by performing a focus strike on Nu Udra's mouth after the slam. |
| Flame Breath | Nu Udra will unleash a stream of fire at you. This attack can be blocked but will drain Stamina, it's best to move away using your Seikret, or perform multiple dives or run to the side. |
| Grab and Burn | Nu Udra will grab the hunter and after a delay will breath fire on the hunter. Continuously use the knife attack once you get grabbed, or fire a slinger pod to Nu Udra's weakpoint to break away. Remember that Flash Pods are ineffective against Nu Udra. |
| Tentacle Attacks | Nu Udra's tentacle attacks vary from a swipe to a slam. You can always tell that Nu Udra will attack with a Tentacle whenever it raises one tentacle. You can avoid incoming damage by dodging in a diagonal direction towards Nu Udra. |
| Full Swipe | Nu Udra will raise and twist two of its tentacles before performing a swipe around it. Step away from Nu Udra to avoid damage, then attack after the the swipe is finished. |
| Fire Ball | From a distance Nu Udra will two fireballs in your direction. Dodge sideways to avoid damage and fireblight. |
| Octo Leap | Nu Udra will dive towards the Hunter, dealing damage as it lands. Run or dodge to the side to avoid taking damage. |
| Mini Eruption | When ignited, Nu Udra will scatter some magma around it. It is recommended to create distance by dodging backwards. |
| Magma Eruption | When ignited, Nu Udra will erupt and rain down magma around itself, effectively removing its ignited state. It is recommended to distance yourself from Nu Udra before attacking it. |

Bring all healing items as you may need them when you face Nu Udra for the first time. Buffing items like Armorskin and Demondrug along with Adamant Seeds and Might Seeds are extremely helpful as they stack and increase your damage and defense. You'll also want to bring Cool Drinks to avoid the DPS from hot areas where Nu Udra resides.
The most essential item for hunting Nu Udra will be Cool Drinks, as it allows you to avoid the DPS from hot areas where Nu Udra resides.
