Monster Hunter Wilds

Underwater Combat Guide

Add to Watchlist

Underwater Combat Guide

Underwater combat is available in Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) during the Lagiacrus hunt. Read on to learn how to hunt underwater and more!

Underwater Combat Guide

Dive Down to Start Underwater Fight

To start underwater combat, dive down to the deep water when Lagiacrus goes underwater. Your handler will notify you to go chase after the target as you need to fight it underwater.

Swim Around and Evade

Once underwater, you can swim around using the directional buttons. You can swim to your left and right or ascend and descend to position yourself.

You can also evade incoming projectiles and attacks with the evade button.

Use Slinger to Cling to Monster

You cannot use your weapon in full while underwater and you will rely on your Slinger to steadily deal damage to Lagiacrus.

To deal damage to the target monster, aim your Slinger and fire the Hook Slinger to cling on the monster. This will open up either knife or weapon attacks, similar to when you have mounted on a monster while on land.

You can use light or heavy knife attacks to create wounds or perform a big attack with your weapon while you are clinging on Lagiacrus.

How to Use the Slinger

Grab Barnacle Clusters to Get Piercing Pods

Helix Piercing Pods

There are Sharp Barnacle Clusters underwater that you can grab with your Slinger. This will give you Helix Piercing Pods which can be used to deal damage and stagger Lagiacrus while it is underwater.

To maximize the damage done by these pods, aim to shoot from Lagiacrus' front or rear to utilize its length, as Piercing shots deal more damage the longer the monster is.

Use Submerged Rubble to Deal Massive Damage

There are also Submerged Rubble traps underwater, which you can shoot with your Slinger to make it crash down on Lagiacrus to deal massive damage. Do pay attention to the monster's positioning to not waste the trap.

How to Set and Activate Traps

Is There Underwater Combat?

Yes, During Lagiacrus Hunt

Lagiacrus Hunt

Underwater combat is available in Monster Hunter Wilds during the Lagiacrus hunt in the Scarlet Forest. This is the first instance in the game where underwater combat is part of the hunt.

Lagiacrus along with Seregios were added in Title Update 2, which was released on June 30, 2025.

Diving Transitions in Some Areas

There are locations in the game where you can dive to travel between areas. While diving, you can use the Capture Net or the Slinger, but you cannot control the Hunter, except for their speed.
