This offense-oriented build focuses on dealing more damage than survivability, compared to the previous one.
The build still reaches 20 Thunder Resistance, which still ignored Arch-Tempered Rey Dau's thunderous attacks.
Skill | Priority | Reason |

Thunder Resistance | ★★★ | ・Gives immunity to thunder attacks and prevents stun. ・Get either this or Stun Resistance |
Stun Resistance | ★★★ | ・Negates stun caused by thunder attacks. ・Get this or Thunder Resistance. |
Blight Resistance | ★★ | ・Negates getting knocked out from effects of Thunderblight. |
Evade Extender | ★★ | ・Makes it easier to avoid lightning beam attacks. ・Level 1 is already useful enough for the fight. |
Earplugs | ★ | ・Useful to avoid flinching from roars but needs to reach Level 2. ・Can be obtained naturally if using Insect Glaive. |
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau has a lot of attacks that can inflict Thunderblight, which can also make you stunned, which can lead to getting carted if you don't fight it carefully.
Thunder Resistance is the top skill to get for this hunt as it removes the chance of you getting stunned and negates any thunder attacks.

How to Beat AT Rey Dau |
---|
|
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, much like a regular Rey Dau, can utilize its lightning attacks which can inflict Thunderblight and leave hunters prone to getting stunned.
It can be useful to equip armor that has high Thunder Resistance and equip armor pieces or decorations that give the Stun Resistance or Thunder Resistance skills. Having at least 20 Thunder Res is enough to become immune to Thunderblight.
Method | Thunder Resistance |
---|---|
Wear armor with Thunder Resistance | Depends on armor |
Get Thunder Resistance skill | +6 to +20 |
Get Defense Boost to Level 4 or higher | +3 to +5 |
Use Vegetables and Finishing Touches in Meals | +8 |

・300 Defense ・20 Thunder Res |
Gypceros α or Gypceros β |
・180 Defense ・20 Thunder Res |

The skills listed above can help increase Thunder Resistance. The Thunder Resistance skill itself can be easily obtained by using any free decoration slots that you have.
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau, like its regular version, is weak to Ice, so it is best to use builds with the Ice Attack skill.
It is recommended to use Ice Artian Weapons or Jin Dahaad weapons to take advantage of the monster's weakness to Ice.
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau has a new lightning beam attack where it aims directly below its head, which can be troublesome for those attacking this part of the monster.
If you get hit with this attack, there is a high chance that you will also get hit by a follow-up attack as you're recovering from the initial lightning beam. The follow-up attack can either be another lightning beam or a series of wing attacks.
It will take a few seconds before Arch-Tempered Rey Dau can use this attack, so use the time to run away from the area or prepare your guards and counters.
After the new lightning beam attack, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau will fly for its follow-up attack. If you're able to dodge the initial attack, you can fire a Flash Pod to not only cancel its follow-up, but also make it crash towards the ground which opens up a window of opportunity to unleash an onslaught of attacks!
Much like a regular Rey Dau's supercharged lightning beam attack, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau's horns will be open to Focus Strikes after this move. If you managed to avoid this move, try to run towards the monster and use your weapon's Focus Strike for a punish!
Keep in mind that successfully landing a Focus Strike on its horns will put this weak spot into a brief cooldown, where Rey Dau will still attack with the supercharged lightning beam attack, but the horns will not glow red. You can land a Focus Strike again on its horns once enough time has passed.
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike
Almost all of Arch-Tempered Rey Dau's attacks that come in contact with the ground will leave blue lightning bolts in place, which will detonate after a few seconds.
Try to avoid these lightning bolts when they're still active to avoid getting damaged while chasing the monster around.
Just like Tempered monsters, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau can get Tempered wounds, which you can destroy to get Wyverian Bloodstone materials and get a chance to topple the monster.
Just like a regular Rey Dau, Arch-Tempered Rey Dau is immune to Shock Traps. If you want to capture this monster, you need to use Pitfall Traps instead.
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau will always start in Area 17, at the far end of the map. You can save time running across Windward Plains if you start the quest in the Pop-up Camp in Area 16, which is right next to Arch-Tempered Rey Dau's initial place.
It can also be useful to lead Arch-Tempered Rey Dau out of Area 17, as it is a hard area to navigate around. You can use Dung Pods to force it to move to another area.
Windward Plains Camps and Map Guide
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Downwards Lightning Beam | Rey Dau looks down and charges a railgun attack from its horns. It will then fly upwards and follow-up with either another lightning beam or use its wings to close in on its target. |
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau can use its High Rank version's attacks. The only difference is that these attacks will deal more damage and will leave blue lightning bolts when the move connects with the ground, which detonates after a few seconds.
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Supercharged Lightning Beam | Extra appendages appear on Rey Dau's neck and bright bolts of lightning gather on its spine, then it fires one devastating lightning beam. Dodge this attack by running to the side, then prepare your Focus Strike for Rey Dau’s horns. |
Flip Slam | Rey Dau performs a backflip and then quickly slams its wing on the ground. Take advantage of this attack as it gives brief damage window after the flip. |
Lightning Beam | Rey Dau plants his wings on the ground or takes to the air and fires one lightning beam. Run towards Rey Dau in a diagonal direction to avoid getting hit. Rey Dau can do this move twice consecutively, with a varying delay on the second beam. |
Quickfire Beam | Rey Dau plants his wings on the ground and fires lightning beams in quick succession. Continuously roll in Ray Dau's direction in a diagonal pattern to dodge the beams. |
Flying Wing Drag | From a flying state, Rey Dau drags his wing toward a target. Dodge away from the direction of the wing drag or use a Flash Pod to topple Rey Dau. |
Heavy Tail Slam | Rey Dau raises its tail high and slams it on the ground. Roll to the side or run towards Rey Dau's legs before the tail hits you. |
Double Tail Slam | Rey Dau winds his tail either to the left or right, then slams it in both directions. Depending how near you are, roll towards Rey Dau's legs or away from the tail to avoid this attack. |
Wing Slam | Rey Dau raises either one of his wings and then slams it on the ground. Roll backward or forward once you see it raise its wing. |
Grounded Wing Drag | Rey Dau burrows its wing on the ground and then drags it forward. Roll towards Rey Dau's legs if you're near enough, or dodge away if you're farther off from the monster. |
Horn Thrust | Rey Dau points his horns forward and thrusts toward a target. Roll sideways to avoid the hitbox from the front and back. |
Arch-Tempered Rey Dau has the same weaknesses as a regular Rey Dau. |

Fought twice now and having a hard time deciding how difficult the monster itself actually is. I''m finding the thing causing me most trouble is the terrible map design filled with excessive slopes. Especially when Rey first moves and decides to sit on the top of the steeped damn sand pile in Area 13 and will not move, so you start sliding and unintentionally start do jump attacks mid-combo.
