For survivability, it's recommended to bring healing items like Herbal Medicines and Antidotes, to deal with the Gypceros's barrage of Poison attacks. You'll also want Armorskin and Demondrug slotted in your item pouch to increase your damage and defense, speeding up your hunt time.
While Gypceros is immune to Shock Traps, you can use Pitfall Traps to get decent damage on its head.

The Gypceros's crest, located on its head, is the source of its blinding attacks. Break its head twice to render its flash attacks useless.
If you're caught in the flash radius, you can hide behind cover or block with your weapon to avoid getting flashed.
How to Block and Perfect Guard
Gypceros can fake its death during battle, complete with music stopping! This is to trick hunters into carving it before it unleashes a flailing attack that deals a lot of damage. Stay away or dodge from this attack as soon as you see Gypceros start to twitch.
Remember that the hunt is only over once you see the quest complete text.
You can carve Gypceros up to two times before it unleashes its powerful flailing attack. Although this strategy is not advisable given the danger, people who are looking to gain rewards may find it useful.
Gypceros's head can become a Weak Point whenever it tries to do a Flash Attack. When it glows red in Focus Mode, Focus Strike its head to cancel the Flash Attack and stagger Gypceros. Keep in mind that the Weak Point only shows up if the head hasn't been broken twice.
How to Use Focus Mode and Focus Strike
Gypceros produces poison puddles during the hunt. The ones that come from its Ceiling Poison Drop attack covers a wider area and stays for much longer. You can pick up Watermoss with your Slinger and use Puddle Pods to clear these poison puddles.
While Gypceros is immune to Shock Traps, you can still use Pitfall Traps against it. You can utilize this trap to damage its head and break it.
Gypceros can inflict Poison quite easily during the hunt. It's important to bring Antidotes and even Herbal Medicine before fighting this monster.
Moves labeled with a sword icon indicate that you can counter them with an Offset Attack.
| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Feign Death | Note: The Tempered version of the monster is shown in the clip. The Gypceros will pretend to die, luring hunters to come closer to it. After some time, the Gypceros will spring back to life, dealing huge damage to anyone close to it. Stay away from its body when it fakes its death and wait for the Quest Complete notification before trying to carve the Gypceros. |
| Flash Bomb | The Gypceros will prime its crest twice before emitting a flash that will Stun any hunter in its radius. Find cover or block to avoid getting flashed This can also be avoided by panic jumping. |
| Tail Smashes | Gypceros will hop around and flail its wings before turning around to smash its tail violently four times. Either run towards the monster or away from the tail's reach once you see it start to flail around. |
| Poison Splashes |
Note: The Tempered version of the monster is shown in the clip. Gypceros will charge forward while spitting poison all over the place. Avoid this by blocking either the charge or the poison spit. Otherwise, dodge to the side opposite the poison spit and avoid the charge. |
| Tail Whip | Using its flexible tail, the Gypceros will whip at the hunters. Caution is needed as thanks to its flexible nature, the tail can extend and hit hunters who are far away. This attack can be blocked, as well as avoided by dodging to the side. |
| Peck Attacks | Gypceros will look downwards before pecking the ground in front of it. Dodge backwards or to the side of this attack to avoid getting damaged and poisoned. |
| Ceiling Poison Drop | Gypceros will spit poison up towards the ceiling, causing poison to drop from above and pool unto the floor. Avoid the poison puddles or use Puddle Pods to clear them. |
| Poison Spit | Note: The Tempered version of the monster is shown in the clip. Gypceros will spit a ball of poison that can apply poison if you are hit. Blocking it with your weapon prevents the poison effect. Either block the attack or dodge to the side. |
