Set the Environment to Plenty
You can only catch the Gravid Bowfin when the environment is Plenty. To change the environment of the locale you're in, go inside your tent in any camp and rest and make sure to pick the Plenty state in the environment option.
Note: Gravid Bowfin can spawn at any time, but we recommend setting it to Daytime so you can spot the fish easily!
Check the Fishing Spot at Scarlet Forest Base First
The Gravid Bowfin can spawn in any fishing spot and it's possible for it to spawn in the Scarlet Forest Base fishing spot where Kanya gives out the quest.
Once you've set the weather state to Plenty, make sure to check that spot first and look for an orange fish before checking other fishing spots across the world.

Look for an Orange Fish in Fishing Spots
The Gravid Bowfin can spawn in any fishing spot across the world and is easy to spot thanks to its bright orange color.
The Gravid Bowfin has a predominantly orange body color with a white underside and has a more rounded head compared to the Virid Bowfin that sometimes spawns alongside it. The Gravid Bowfin is also larger compared to the more slender Virid Bowfin.

Although the Gravid Bowfin can spawn in any fishing spot, one of the best fishing spots to force-spawn it is in the Oasis in Area 13 of Windsward Plains.
You can set a pop-up camp near the oasis and the fish here are easy to spot during daytime. If the Gravid Bowfin doesn't spawn the first time, you can simply head back inside your camp to rest to try and spawn the fish again.
Note: If fast traveling to a different region, make sure to change the environment state to Plenty for that region!
Use the Emerald Jitterbait and Move the Lure
You can only catch Gravid Bowfin using the Emerald Jitterbait that Kanya gives you at the start of the quest. Capturing a Gravid Bowfin using the Capture Net does not count for progressing and completing her quest.
Once you spot a Gravid Bowfin, equip the Emerald Jitterbait and cast your line, making sure to jig the line by moving the bait to lure the fish into biting!
The Gravid Bowfin Takes a While to Bite
The Gravid Bowfin takes a while to bite and in fact will often ignore your bait as it swims around the fishing spot.
Keep recasting your line near it and jig the line and it will eventually notice your bait and go for a bite!
