Carving Master allows you an extra carve on any monster during a quest. This skill is active if you meet the 3-piece requirement when you begin or join a quest (it can be joining in the middle of any SOS or lobby quest).
During a quest, attempting to swap the pieces in or out will render the skill inactive for the rest of the hunt, so make sure to keep them on from the start to the end.

Having Carving Master active will allow you to carve a Carcass one (1) extra time only during a quest. Its activation is indicated in the right-hand side as an effect pop-up notification when you carve a monster.
Carving Master will apply to any monster type in a quest: it may be large or small, a quest target or not. This makes it a good set bonus skill for gathering extra monster materials.
Note that carcass striclty means means a corpse; this is different from a Bonepile and will be indicated so as 'Carcass' when a prompt to carve appears.

Carving Master stacks with the Carver Meal buff you get from eating group meals from Meal Invitations (specifically the Azuz Meal), giving you a possibility of up to 4 extra carves in total. Group meals can also be accessed via the Grand Hub's canteen if you have Pick-a-meal Vouchers or their corresponding meal voucher.
Pick-a-meal Vouchers can be obtained through various ways such as login bonuses, Arena Quests, and bounties. They can also be obtained as special item rewards quest completions with the Blossomdance Boon skill activated by at least having 2 pieces of Sakuratide armor.
