Monster Hunter Wilds - Weather System Explained

The weather system in Monster Hunter Wilds cycles through three states that affect monsters and exploration in a locale. See how the weather system works, how to change it, and what Fallow, Inclemency, and Plenty are in this guide!

Weather System Explained

Weather Guide for Monster Hunter Wilds

Three Alternating Weather Conditions

Windward Plains Onset of the Sandtide

The Weather System in Monster Hunter Wilds incorporates a cycling mechanic that causes the weather in a locale to change constantly during exploration.

There are three weather conditions that a locale can experience, beginning with the Fallow period. This is followed by an Inclemency event, which leads to the third weather condition, the Plenty period.

Fallow and Plenty States

Fallow and Plenty Periods

The Fallow and Plenty weather states are opposite weather conditions separated by an Inclemency. During the Fallow, resources are scarce for anything living in the wilds, causing monsters to fight each other over food.

The Plenty, on the other hand, is a period of life and abundance, with flora and fauna flourishing across the locale. Herbivorous monsters emerge to graze on the plant life, as the skies above remain clear and sunny.

Inclemency Weather Event

Walking in the Sandtide

The transition from the Fallow to the Plenty is marked by an Inclemency, a meteorological phenomenon that differs based on the locale that hunters are currently in.

The Inclemency is an intense weather event that brings certain conditions, such as thunderstorms or heavy rain, into an area. Apex Monsters also often appear during a locale's Inclemency event.

Detailed Weather Info on Map

The current state of the weather in a locale can be viewed by opening the Map, and scrolling through the details of the area. The Map will display the current weather, as well as how long until the weather changes.

Can Be Checked Near the Minimap

Players can also see what weather state the locale is currently in by looking at the bottom-left corner of the screen, to the left of the minimap. These icons indicate what the current weather period is in the area.

Change the Weather by Resting

Monster Hunter Wilds - Enter Your Tent
If you want to change the weather, you could head back to your tent and rest. This is crucial especially if you want to hunt a monster or capture certain endemic life creatures that only appear on specific weather conditions.

How to Change the Weather and Time

Head to the Tent and Rest

How to Change the Time and Weather
1
Head back to one of your tents, either they're in the base camp or pop-up camp.
2
Open the camp menu, and head to the BBQ Menu. You can find the latter by looking for the Ration icon. Select Rest afterwards.
3
Pressing Rest should open the Environment and Time menu. Select the Environment and Time you want for your hunt and press confirm. Note that doing this requires 300 Guild Points.
4
The game warns you one last time about the Environment and Time you selected. Additionally, you may be moved to another tent during this!

You can change the time and weather by resting in your tent at a cost of 300 Guild Points.

Do note that this is only available after reaching High Rank, and it is not possible to change the weather during a quest.

Time and Weather Changes As Time Passes

As time passes in-game, both time and weather changes randomly. Despite changing randomly, you can still predict the changes by checking the forecast on the detailed map.

It's also worth mentioning that this is a new feature that's only present in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Apex Monsters Appear During Inclemency Weather

Apex Monsters During Inclemency
Rey DauRey Dau
Nu UdraNu Udra
Uth DunaUth Duna
Jin DahaadJin Dahaad

Most monsters that reign over a specific region will only appear during that area's period of Inclemency, creating a treacherous battlefield fit for an apex predator. This knowledge is especially useful when taking on Optional Assignment Quests where you can farm their monster parts!

While Apex Monsters emerge during Inclemency in most regions, the Ruins of Wyveria instead summon a variety of Guardian Monsters during its own Inclemency period. Take advantage of this, as successfully slaying a Guardian Monster within a Wylk Pool grants rare Melding materials!

Endemic Life and Resources are Affected by Plenty and Fallow Weather

Endemic Life

Many Overworld Resources, Aquatic and Endemic Life creatures rely on either the Fallow or Plenty weather condition to spawn.

If a Side Mission requires you to catch a particular creature or collect certain items, be sure to check that the current weather matches its spawn conditions before starting!

Sandtide (Windward Plains)

Windward Plains Sandtide Inclemency

The Sandtide is the unique Inclemency in the Windward Plains. During the Sandtide, massive thunderstorms blow across the plains, with lightning flashing through the sky and striking the ground at random.

This weather also heralds the appearance of Rey Dau, the apex monster of the Windward Plains. Just like the storms of the Sandtide, the latter commands electricity to rule over the plains at the top of the food chain.

Downpour (Scarlet Forest)

Scarlet Forest Downpour Inclemency

The Scarlet Forest Inclemency is called the Downpour, which, as its name implies, brings forth heavy rains that flood the locale.

Uth Duna may also emerge during this weather. This leviathan reigns as the apex monster in the Scarlet Forest, and has adapted to fight in the water that the Downpour brings.

Firespring (Oilwell Basin)

Oilwell Basin Firespring Inclemency

In the Oilwell Basin, players will experience the Firespring as the locale's Inclemency. During this period, magma flows through the ground, and fire blazes through the basin as the Everforge roars to life.

Nu Udra loves this weather and will most likely spawn. Additionally, it's best to prepare a Cool Drink when hunting on a Firespring weather due to the extreme climate.

Frostwinds (Iceshard Cliffs)

Iceshard Cliffs

The Iceshard Cliffs has a unique Inclemency called Frostwinds. Gemma described it as a never-ending winter in Hopes of Home, which summarizes the weather perfectly.

Nerscylla, and Hirabami are extremely attracted to this weather so expect them to pop-up! Lastly, be sure to prepare Hot Drinks when hunting on this extreme climate.

Wyvern's Wakening (Ruins of Wyveria)

Monster Hunter Wilds - Ruins of Wyveria Location

Wyvern's Wakening is a unique weather that can only be found in Ruins of Wyveria. This is mainly thanks to the locale's richness in Wyvern Milk, a substance that Guardian Monsters need. You can easily distinguish Wyvern Milk once you notice the floor is blue with silver threads.

Unlike most periods of Inclemency, which summon a region's Apex Monster, Wyvern's Wakening instead attracts various Guardian Monsters to the Ruins of Wyveria. These formidable foes have an increased chance of appearing during this period, so stay vigilant!

Guardian Monsters in Wylk Pools Drop Rare Materials

If you slay a Guardian Monster during a period of Wyvern's Wakening, make sure that their carcass falls into a Wylk Pool. Over time, it will crystallize, allowing you to harvest high-rarity materials like Cloudy Crystal and Coruscating Crystal, which are valuable melding materials at the Melding Pot.

Be sure to carve these materials before the weather shifts to Wyvern's Repose (Plenty), or the Crystallized Carcass will decay into a Rotten Carcass.
