How to Beat Flying Wyverns

Flying Wyvern Fight Tips

Use Flash Pods to Knock Them Down From the Air

You can temporarily knock down Flying Wyvern who take to the skies by using Flash Pods while they are in the air. Wait for the Flying Wyvern to take flight and use a Flash Pod while they are in the air to knock them down to the ground.

This is a useful tactic to force them into the ground so you can hit them easily, and also slow them down if they are trying to move to another area.

Damage Their Wings to Limit Their Movements

Focus on damaging a Flying Wyvern's wings when hunting them. While this doesn't stop them from flying, it can reduce their agility in the air and force them to fight you on the ground more.

Targetting the wings is also a good idea since the drops obtained from breaking their wings are relatively rare and used for crafting strong weapons and armor.

Cut Off Their Tails to Limit Their Damage

Some Flying Wyvern such as Rathian and Rathalos use their large tails to swipe and strike at hunters. Not only are these tail attacks strong, they can also inflict Poison which can be deadly in a long hunt if you don't cure it with Antidotes!

We recommend prioritizing cutting these two Flying Wyvern's tails first to reduce their damage and prevent them from inflicting Poison!

What are Flying Wyverns?

Bipedal Monsters with Two Wings

Flying Wyvern are monsters that stand on two legs and possess two wings which some use for flight. There are currently 5 Flying Wyvern in Monster Hunter Wilds and these are among the tougher hunts in the game.

Not All Flying Wyverns Can Fly

Despite their name, not all Flying Wyvern are restricted to flying. Monsters such as Arkveld can use their winged forelimbs to walk in a quadrupedal fashion, while Gravios can't fly at all despite possessing wings due to their massive size.
