Head to the System Settings Menu which should be at the far end and the one that has cogwheels as an icon. It is also the same Settings Menu where you'll find Return to the Title Screen, and Quit Game.

How to Pause Quests
Select Pause on the System Menu, and the game should pause. This option will only be selectable if you are playing via online single player.

You can pause how long you want, and you can return playing by pressing Resume. You can also access the game's Photo Mode this way.

When Can I Pause the Game?

Only Works in Single Player Mode

Single Player Mode
Monster Hunter Wilds' pause feature only works in Single Player Mode. This means if you're playing with your friends or any other hunters via multiplayer, you won't be able to pause your quest.

Change Online Mode to Single Player Mode

How to Change Online Mode to Single Player Mode
If you are in Online Mode, you can head back to the base camp and talk to Alma to change this!

A Menu should open where you can access the Change Lobby menu. The third option, Online Single Player, should change your game from Online Mode to Single Player Mode.

Another option is to head back to the Title Screen and change your lobby to Single Player Mode from there.
