So, I've completed the Brown mission, you basically turn on some relays, has nothing to do with the door in the well. I also was able to get the key on Topher's body, I opened the safe, but the key is not able to open the door either. So I guess we're still not closer to opening this door. It does however lead to the sewers, the music playing at the door matches the music playing in the sewers.
I believe this is connected to the main-story mission "High price to pay". During the mission, the exit through the door is used. it likely stays open after that.
it doesn't, that's an entirely separate mission. I believe it may be bugged, with a missing body where the blood spot is. There is an apartment in the well that has a safe belonging to Topher, and the key to open it is supposed to be on his body. Yet for lots of players, the body isn't there, this you can't open the safe. I think this door may be similar. It says "requires a key" but when you click, it says "opens elsewhere".
After exploring the Lodge, I found a door to the basement and it eventually led to a door that said "The Well". It seems to be an underground passage through the sewers that leads to a butchering room, Im assuming under the well because I can hear music on the other side of the locked door. Will follow up after seeing if I can figure out the brown out mission thing the other commenter mentioned.
Just after finding the Well from the Lodge and exploring it I walked outside and one of the guards said "The well has been having brownouts. We sent someone down, and nothing has changed". I then had a new activity "Investigate brown-outs in the well" following this activity may unlock the location of the key.
