A fix was made to the Corrupted Mantle in Ver 1.011 on May 28, 2025 as part of the Title Update Roadmap.

As of Title Update 1, the effects of the Corrupted Mantle have been turned down to bring it more in line with other Mantles and ensure fairer choices across the board.
Its duration was cut by 30 seconds and the bonus affinity and attack are now much lower, providing only a maximum of 10% affinity.

The Corrupted Mantle is an Essential item that can increase a player's weapon affinity by up to 10% and attack by 4.5% at the cost of their health. As an Essential item, it is permanently in the player's inventory and can be used whenever it is off cooldown during a hunt.

The Corrupted Mantle's effect has two states. The first state, activated after using the mantle, increases the player's weapon affinity by 5% at the cost of decreasing health over time.
After doing enough attacks, the second state activates. This state grants players an additional 5% weapon affinity and +4.5% attack and removes the health reduction penalty for the rest of the Mantle's effect time.

Besides the affinity and attack bonus, all the weapons also gain effects while the Corrupted Mantle is equipped. This is usually an additional hit for most melee attacks that use the Triangle or Y input. For ranged weapons, having the mantle on greatly increases gauge recovery. Based on our testing, all additional hits can deal critical hits and stun (for blunt weapons).
HP Reduction Remains Until the 2nd Phase Activates
Players should note that their health will continue to decrease until either the mantle's 2nd state activates or its effect timer runs out. Given this, they should aim to activate the Corrupted Mantle's 2nd phase immediately after usage, as the health reduction is not negligible.
Different from the Black Eclipse Skill or Being Frenzied
While having similar mechanics, the Corrupted Mantle's effects and state system differ from the Black Eclipse skill or being Frenzied. Given this, activating the mantle's second state does not trigger the Antivirus skill.

Equip Before Dealing a Sneak Attack
Players can equip the Corrupted Mantle before executing a sneak attack. Then, they can take the opportunity to attack while the monster is recovering to quickly activate the mantle's second state, effectively providing an early DPS boost for the fight.
Use After the Target is Downed
Players can also use the Corrupted Mantle after they down their target. Doing so mitigates the risk of being hit with attacks while the health penalty is in effect and allows them to easily attack the monster for quick activation for the mantle's 2nd state.
Use Before Destroying a Wound
Finally, players can equip and use the Corrupted Mantle before Focus Striking and destroying a wound. Doing so will stagger the monster and give players enough time to attack them to activate the mantle's 2nd state.
Assign Corrupted Mantle as Radial Menu Shortcut
Aside from equipping the Corrupted Mantle from the inventory bar, players can assign it as one of their Radial Menu shortcuts to equip it outside or during battle quickly. Additionally, equipping the Corrupted Mantle this way allows them to equip it without sheathing their weapons.

The Corrupted Mantle is unlocked by hunting the Gore Magala in the A World Turned Upside Down mission. It will become available at the Blacksmith after the hunt.
