The Rocksteady Mantle is an Essential item that grants players damage reduction from attacks, Hyper Armor, and resistances to effects like staggers from roars and immobilization from wind pressure.
Players should note that the Rocksteady Mantle's effect timer decreases every time the player is hit or damaged.

Using the Rocksteady Mantle will reduce the damage you take for 60 seconds. While having the proper armor set equipped for a hunt should always take priority, bringing any form of extra damage reduction can go a long way.
The Rocksteady Mantle allows players to mitigate the risks of winding up for a big swing with their weapon. When used, they will gain the effects of Earplugs, Windproof, and Tremor Resistance, all while damage reactions get negated.
These buffs are especially useful for some Low Rank Hammer builds in the game.

Players can use the Rocksteady Mantle with the Counterstrike skill since the skill's effect can activate when hit by an attack while having Hyper Armor, which the mantle provides. Doing so gives players a solid attack boost for most of the skill's and mantle's effect period.
Offset attacks are a new counter mechanic introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. Successfully pulling off an Offset requires proper timing, so using the Rocksteady Mantle will allow players to take a few extra hits while they study their target's attack patterns.
All Offset Attacks and How to Use
Players can use the Rocksteady Mantle to negate the staggering effects of Roars from Doshaguma's and other monsters that have the move. Doing so allows them to get more attacks and damage while the monster is in the middle of its animation.
While the Rocksteady Mantle is useful for attacking while tanking hits, players should be careful when executing long, uninterruptable, multi-hit attacks. Even with the Mantle, players will still receive damage when hit.
Additionally, given that the effect timer reduces when players get hit, these attacks can put players in a situation where they are vulnerable to receiving high amounts of damage after the timer runs out.
Aside from equipping the Rocksteady Mantle from the inventory bar, players can assign it as one of their Radial Menu shortcuts to equip it outside or during battle quickly. Additionally, equipping the Rocksteady Mantle this way allows them to equip it without sheathing their weapons.
How to Use and Customize the Radial Menu

The Rocksteady Mantle is unlocked by hunting Nu Udra in the Long-Forgotten Flame mission in Chapter 2. It will become available at the Blacksmith after the hunt.
