The Whetstone is an Essential Item used to sharpen weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. Learn how to use the Whetstone and see its uses here.
List of Contents
The Whetstone is a Fixed item used to sharpen the Hunter's equipped melee weapon. It's important that you keep your melee weapons at a good sharpness level as this could decrease your damage and make your attacks bounce off the monster.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you don't need to wait for the entire sharpening animation to get your weapon sharpness up. Weapons restore sharpness by increments, which is indicated by the hunter's sharpning animation.

As a Fixed item, the Whetstone is automatically part of the player's inventory and can be used at any time during a hunt.
To sharpen your currently equipped weapon with the Whetstone, simply select the item in your inventory and press the use button. Weapons can be sharpened either drawn or sheathed, and can even be sharpened while the hunter is mounted on a Seikret.
Using the whetstone will put the player in the sharpening animation. It is generally recommended to sharpen weapons when the Hunter is in a safe area.
If it is absolutely necessary to use the whetstone in the middle of a fight, players can use it when they see an opening and cancel the animation with the Dodge button if necessary.
