To get Afflicted Shell, you have to go on A★3 Anomaly Quests to hunt down specific Afflicted Monsters. We've listed them below for your convenience. For every broken part and every carve (body or tail), you will have a 40% chance to get Afflicted Shell.

You can also obtain Afflicted Shell from breaking parts and carving the same monsters listed above in Lv. 21–30 Anomaly Investigations.
Beyond these levels, you may receive anywhere between 1 to 5 Afflicted Shell as a Quest Bonus Reward in addition to the higher tier afflicted material, but you won't get them as carve or break rewards anymore.
We recommend hunting an Afflicted Somnacanth with a Light Bowgun build like the one linked below to easily farm for Afflicted Shell.
Use this ranged weapon to create some distance between you and the monster to lessen the risk of being hit with a powerful move while dealing damage from far away as quickly as you can.

Upon reaching Anomaly Research Level 101, you'll be able to exchange 30 Investigation Coins for an Afflicted Shell at Bahari's Anomaly Research Lab.
You can use Afflicted Shell to augment your weapon at the Smithy. Afflicted Shell gives you a total of 6 points. Please note that you can only augment Rarity 10 weapons!
