Project Rene and New Sims Experiences Updates
Project Rene Now A Mobile Game

Project Rene, the upcoming life-sim title by developer Maxis and publisher EA, is now a mobile-first game. In an article on The Sims’ official website on January 9, the developers gave an update on their current and future projects.
First revealed in October 2022, Project Rene was built as the "next evolution of The Sims," with some fans theorizing that it was a codename for The Sims 5. Since then, information about the game has been scarce, with some footage of its prototype scenes and small-scale playtests being shared by Maxis.

With the developers’ latest update, they announced that Project Rene "has evolved to focus on social multiplayer play" and offers a "more direct way for friends to share creativity together."
Furthermore, Maxis and EA once again emphasized that it is a completely separate experience from the The Sims series, honing in on the game’s collaborative and social aspects rather than the typical sandbox system.
"It introduces a new way to explore and play together within the growing Sims family of games, welcoming Simmers who want to connect directly with other players," they said.
New Sims Experiences Across All Platforms

Aside from Project Rene, the developers look to continue the Sims series with possibly new titles that will span across all platforms. According to the post, Maxis and EA are building "a family of new Sims experiences" for PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
These projects will be distinct and stand on their own, each featuring a unique world, focus, and gameplay. Not much has been shared by the developers, but they promised to provide more information in the future.

Although Maxis and EA have multiple life-sim projects lined up, they noted that their core of creating "deep, single-player life simulation[s], chock full of rich systems" remains intact. They stated that they will continue to deliver updates and new content for The Sims 4.
Additionally, there will be playtesting of multiple Sims products and experiences in 2026, with a variety of early builds and prototypes going to be available at limited market tests and The Sims Labs. "Some concepts evolve and sometimes an experiment won’t move forward at all. That’s a normal and important part of how we build The Sims, by finding the fun early, together," they said.
The Sims 5 Still Questionable

While some fans of the Sims series are continuing to wait for the announcement of The Sims 5, the sequel is unlikely. Variety spoke with EA Vice President Kate Gorman in September 2024 and stated that there are no plans for The Sims 5, instead focusing on the next era of the franchise.
"What this means is that we will continue to bring HD simulation experience and what people would want from a ‘5’ — but it doesn’t mean that we’re going to start you over, reset all your progress, and really feel like you’re going to lose all of that amazing play you put into ‘4,’" she stated.

Even though these comments suggest The Sims 5 is not coming into reality, the latest article referred to "the next evolution" coming soon. This may be a hint at a possible The Sims 5 title, or just another reference to Project Rene.
Regardless, fans of the life-sim franchise have so much to look forward to in the future. The developers promised to share more news about "The Sims 4 and the next evolution" in the coming months.
The Sims 4 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, Epic Games, and EA App. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below.
