Defense Grinder Effects

Rampage Skill Effect
Defense Grinder I Sharpness is unaffected when guarding.
Defense Grinder II Sharpness is slightly restored when guarding.

No Sharpness Loss When Guarding

Great Sword Charge Blade

Both the Great Sword and the Charge Blade lose sharpness when using guards and counters. Equipping any of the Defense Grinder skills ensures that this drawback is negated.

Defense Grinder II Restores Sharpness

Defense Grinder II also restores one point of sharpness for every successfully blocked attack. This only includes direct hits when guarding whether from melee attacks or projectiles and doesn't restore sharpness when guarding against tremors or wind. Using skills like Razor Sharp and Master's Touch can make that single point last longer.

Works With Counters and Guard Points

Great Sword

Guard Tackle

Strongarm Stance

Outside their standard guard, the Great Sword and Charge Blade have moves and Silkbind Attacks that allow them to counter. All of these work with both levels of Defense Grinder. Keep in mind that many of the follow up moves can deal multiple hits, so using these with Defense Grinder II will require sharpness skills to be more effective.
