Unlike all of the House of the Hearth's orphans, Clervie was the actual biological daughter of Crucabena, the former Knave, 4th of the Fatui Habingers, and the House's former “Mother.”
Clervie was brought to the House of the Hearth by Crucabena at the age of 6. She was initially enamored by the idea of living in a lavish establishment filled with friendly adults and children of her age that she can befriend.
However, as time went on, Clervie realized the true nature of the House and her so-called “Mother”.
Under her mother's reign, the real goal of the House of the Hearth was to raise orphans to become killing machines and have them fight against each other to the death to determine the worthy heir of The Knave — its “King.”
The House simply got rid of those who died. Survivors with permanent injuries, however, were either deployed on deadly missions or sent to The Doctor as test subjects for experimentation.
Il Dottore (The Doctor) Story and Profile
Upon learning of the House's true intentions, Clervie's one desire was to be free from it, away from all the unnecessary murder and clandestine operations.
She tried diplomatically speaking to Crucabena about it, only to end up injured and beaten after the discussion. Even as she grew, her desire for freedom never changed, and continued to hope that one day, she will be free.
During her days in the House of the Hearth, one good thing did come out of it: a close friendship with a girl named Peruere. In stark contrast to Clervie's bubbly personality, Peruere was stoic and anti-social and often kept to herself.
The two eventually became best friends. Clervie called Peruere “Perrie,” and even made a promise with her that once they're older, they would visit Snezhnaya together to see its floating lights.
As the best friends grew older, Clervie's desire for freedom from the House of the Hearth never changed. Her hope for achieving it, however, faltered over time, leading her to believe that there was no way one could escape.
Peruere suggested that Clervie should just kill Crucabena, but she knew that Clervie did not have it in her to kill her own flesh and blood. Without any options left, Clervie was prepared to avail herself of one final resort.
As Clervie's turn for a duel came, her partner was none other than Peruere herself. While she did put up a fight, Clervie planned to let Peruere kill her all along—her last resort to finally being free from the House of the Hearth.
Her death led to Peruere's curse taking full effect and ultimately killing Crucabena in a fit of rage. Following that and her arrest in Snezhnaya, Peruere rose to become Arlecchino, replacing Crucabena in every way.
Arlecchino Rating and Best Builds
Arlecchino's curse leaves behind remnants in its wake, and while exceedingly rare, these remnants can turn into sentient entities known as shadows. In today's time, Clervie's shadow manifested, albeit a little differently.
Clervie's 6-year-old self was the one that came to be, without much recollection of her later years and only remembering her disire for freedom and friendship with “Perrie.”
Clervie plays a major part in Act 1 of Arlecchino's Story Quest, Ignis Purgatorius. Follow our guide below to complete Arlecchino's Story Quest and find out more about her story and origins!
