Upon reaching a library in Enkanomiya, the traveler meets Enjou who introduces himself as a researcher who will help translate clues regarding the trial to acquire the Bloodbranch Coral.

Enjou appears again after the Traveler defeats the Bathysmal Vishaps beneath Enkanomiya. He reveals his true form as a Pyro Abyss Lector. His goal was to find a book called ''Before Sun and Moon'' to prove to the Abyss Order that the gods came from a different world.
After defeating Enjou he explains to the Traveler that he had many reasons to kill them, but chose not to because he liked them. He also warns the Traveler not to be too trusting in the future, so they don't get betrayed easily, pointing at Paimon possible betraying them in the future.

In The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, Enjou said he had witnessed or otherwise gone to several historic locations and civilizations in Teyvat. This is in line with his earlier claim to be a scholar interested in ancient civilizations.
The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc Quest Guide
The places he mentioned included Gurabad in Sumeru's Desert, the Moshiri Ceremonial Site in Yashiori, the colossi of Remuria, and the Vaqub Caquix Tower in Ochkanatlan.
He also mentioned witnessing certain civilizations and groups, such as the Vindagnyr in Dragonspine, the Sunchildren of Enkanomiya, Mondstadt's old aristocracy, the Guili Assembly in Liyue, the people of Orobaxi who fought against those from Narukami, and the Muratans who left Tenochtzitoc when it perished.

Enjou's reason for obsessing over old civilizations turned out to be due to his own missing past. He had no home he could remember, not even the Abyss Order. It is unclear if he meant he did not originally live in Khaenri'ah like most known members of the Abyss Order, or if he simply felt he did not belong with them.
At the end of The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, after Enjou and the Traveler defeated the Permeated Bakunawa, he revealed his intentions to explore Mare Jivari by himself.

Before Enjou left, he gave the Traveler a flower in the form of the Lavawalker's Resolution, saying that as long as it continued burning it would mean he was still alive. He said the exact same words as is written in the description of the flower for the Lavawalker artifact set, implying he may be that very person.
As the Mare Jivari is displaced from Teyvat's regular flow of time, it's unclear whether Enjou was the Lavawalker from the past, will become the Lavawalker after he left the Traveler, or was only emulating the Lavawalker he'd read about in his research.

After completing The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, you will get ''Someone's Tattered Notes (I)'' in your inventory, which described the Mondstadt Adventurer Stanley first mentioned in Venti's Story Quest Act 1 who met someone named ''Nocht'' while stuck in the Mare Jivari.
Nocht is implied to be a name Enjou used when he was first in Tenochtzitoc, and he used a flower similar to the one he gave to the Traveler to stop the bleeding from Stanley's wounds.

Enjou appears once more in Kinich's story quest, Kinich's Deal, this time donning a new pseudonym, Sanka. He first appeared in the Tribal Chronicle quest, A Mysterious Visitor From Huitztlan, where he scammed two children from the Scions of the Canopy, and was later on driven away by the Traveler.

Enjou appeared once more in The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, disguising himself as someone named Hayne and stealing the costume of the actor Papar. He lured the Traveler and Citlali into leading him to the sealed entrance to Mare JivariMare Jivari Location Guide, which he eventually set out to explore by himself.

The events during the Three Realms Gateway Offering is revealed to be the work of Enjou and the Abyss Order. Their goal is to enshroud Enkanomiya in darkness so that they'll be able to move their forces through much easier.
However, at the end, Enjou implores the Traveler to guide the light and dispel the encroaching darkness. While the Traveler and Paimon were hesitant at first, Enjou's advice helped to solve the problem in Three Realms.
