Yuandai Lore and Story

Almost a Disciple to Cloud Retainer

Although Yuandai appears as a human, she's actually a white crane originally occupying Cloud Retainer's abode at Mt. Aocang. According to Xianyun, Yuandai almost became a disciple on the same level as Ganyu, and Shenhe, had she not chosen to run away.

Became a Human

According to Yuandai, she's always looked up to the Cloud Retainer ever since she's regaled her with the Adeptus's past exploits. This ignited a spark within Yuandai, who dreamed of becoming human to help people the same way Xianyun did.

However, being just a crane with no powers yet to take on the human-form, Xianyun brewed her the Human Mimicry Potion which helped her become a human even without an Adeptal power of her own.

The Catch

While Yuandai had transformed into a human back when she first used the potion, Xianyun warned her that it'll only last for 10 years, and she must absolutely go back to her Crane form, otherwise she'll transform into something hideous.

However, Yuandai chose to turn her back on her life as a Crane, and decided to live as the Nameless Heroine, with the unnamed Exorcist.

Fell in Love with an Exorcist

The primary reason why Yuandai ran away from Mt. Aocang is because of an unnamed, human exorcist from Liyue whom she encountered when she first transformed to a human with Xianyun's help.

The story with how they met wasn't specifically mentioned, however, it's obvious that what they shared between them was pure, and blissful love. And through it, Yuandai's son, Shuyu's father, was born.

Shuyu's Grandmother

According to Shuyu, her parents have died some time ago, thus it's only her and Yuandai left to tend to each other.

And while Yuandai's condition have proven to be difficult to handle for a child as young as Shuyu, the love between this grandmother and child duo is nothing to scoff at.
