To unlock Varesa's Story Quest, you must first complete the initial two Tribal Chronicle quests Ardent Land of Plenty and Orchard Repose. Field Fungal Traces automatically unlocks after clearing all the prerequisites!
Unlike older character Story Quests, you do not need a Story Key to unlock Varesa's Story Quest!
You must complete the Chapter 5 Act 5 Archon Quest - Incandescent Ode of Resurrection, and be at least Adventure Rank 28 to unlock Varesa's Story Quest.
Incandescent Ode of Resurrection Quest Guide
Objectives | |
---|---|
1 | Go to the Cafeteria from the Collective of Plenty NPC to find Varesa and company to start the quest. |
2 | ![]() After the initial cutscene, check up on Varesa, who will just be 16 meters in front of you. This will play out the entire Epic Feast Showdown cutscene with Varesa, Iansan, and a few other contestants. |
3 | ![]() When the competition concludes, head on over back to the orchard to meet up with Varesa. At this point, the Traveler will end up eating a portion of green mushrooms, which allows them to hear the Sage-Lord of Fungi's voice. |
4 | ![]() After speaking to the Sage-Lord in your head and the subsequent Red Mushroom, walk up to the Green Mushroom to ask it for the next challenge. |
5 | ![]() Following up from the green mushroom, walk down further into the orchard to listen in on two mushrooms, who will end up giving out the answers long before you interact with them. This will end Sage Supreme and begin the next sub-quest. |
Objectives | |
---|---|
1 | After the auto-start from the previous quest, return back to the Collective of Plenty and discuss your findings with the rest of the group regarding the green mushroom's origins. |
2 | ![]() Afterwards, you will be tasked with retrieving high-temperature materials that can cook the mushroom at the correct heat. Start by pathing further into the base of the volcano. |
3 | Upon reaching the ramp, you will gain control of a trial Varesa and must defeat the Avatar of Lava on the other side of the cliff. Jump over using her Elemental Skill and continue on, breaking through the rolling stones, then beat the Avatar. |
4 | 3 more Avatars of Lava will spawn further in. Simply use Varesa to close the gap and make short work of them, as her trial variant's damage is enough to solo all of them. |
5 | Shortly after defeating them, the volcano will erupt and spawn in a new enemy. As with the Avatars, use Varesa to beat them and gain the high-temperature soruce that you need. Once you beat this opponent, The Meaning of Courage will end and begin the last sub-quest. |
Objectives | |
---|---|
1 | ![]() After regaining control, returning to the tribe will prompt a cutscene where they start cooking the mushroom using the heat source. This will cause the mushrooms to excrete a fungal aroma around the Traveler, Paimon, and Varesa. |
2 | Once the fungal spores transport you into the Sage-Lord's realm and you go through the dialogue detailing the Sage-Lord's history, use Varesa and defeat the Fungi in front of you to trigger the next part of the quest. |
3 | Continue the illusion by following the linear path, picking up the common chest along the way. This will enter you into another cutscene where the Sage-Lord tells you more about their reverence and power. |
4 | Jump into the well after the cutscene. |
5 | You will be forced into a side-scroll perspective, and must use Varesa to navigate through the obstacle course using her Elemental Skill to make leaps and break obstacles. |
6 | When reaching the part with the Ruin creature, do not get off of it until you get the dialogue from Varesa saying to jump. Afterwards, jump to the right side. |
7 | You will end up cornering the Sage-Lord again, who will try to deflect their true past as you explain the true reasoning for their lack of power. Once you gain control of your character, open the Precious Chest, then plunge down on the rocks to the right. |
8 | Follow the path to the huge arena with the mushroom statue. |
9 | Your task at this point is to break the rock pillars surrounding the statue using Varesa's Elemental Skill, but cannot do so until you take out each group of mushrooms guarding each pillar and render it breakable, which is indicated by a glow near its base. |
10 | ![]() Winning this fight will end the conflict completely, as the Traveler, Paimon, and Varesa will leave the area after one last verbal confrontation with Bifron, the Sage-Lord of Fungi. A cutscene that shows the aftermath will play shortly after. |
11 | ![]() After everything is settled, proceed to the Adventurer's Guild where you will come across Tighnari, who will ask for investigative permission on the mushrooms, as well as offering advice towards dealing with them. This will end this sub-quest and conclude Varesa's Story Quest. |

This Varesa quest is seriously irritating and boring the hell out of me. If it wasnt for rewards I would walk away. Crap and so lame to make you use this character in such a lame way.

I have only on thing to Say and that is that this quest is in my eyes absolutely hilarious and if you do the World Quest in the Chasem with the Big Shroom you get extra dialog even!
