Competitive Analysis

Psychic Terrain is one of the four terrains usable in the game. Once it is in the field, Psychic Terrain will have numerous effects.

Do note that only Pokemon on the ground are affected by this, and Flying-types, Pokemon with Levitate, or those holding Air Balloon will not be affected.

Psychic Terrain and Other Moves

While Psychic Terrain is active, all Psychic-type attacks will be 30% stronger. This makes the terrain a great field for offensive Psychic-type Pokemon like Mewtwo or Hatterene.

The move Expanding Force from Isle of Armor has its power boosted. If the battle takes places in a Doubles format the move will hit both opposing Pokemon, which is the core tactic of the infamous Double Expanding Force strategy.

As for environment-dependent moves, Terrain Pulse becomes a Psychic-type move and has its power doubled. Nature Power becomes Psychic.

Protection from Priority Moves

Psychic Terrain makes all affected Pokemon on the field immune to priority moves, including moves that are given priority due to Abilities like Prankster.

This protects Pokemon from the likes of Fake Out, and quick attacks like Sucker Punch and Aqua Jet.

Abilities and Items Tied to Psychic Terrain

Sending out Pokemon with the Psychic Surge Ability in the field will automatically spawn Psychic Terrain.

Pokemon with Psychic Seed will consume the item and raise their Special Defense stat once the terrain is active on the field, which makes them more durable against special attacks.

Terrain Extender will extend Psychic Terrain from five to eight turns.
