Psychic-type moves perhaps require a deep technical knowledge on battling as half of it are moves that can instantly change how a match is being played out, and utilizing these strategies almost demand surgical planning.
Most stat-boosting moves intended for your Pokemon to perform better are Psychic-type moves. Calm Mind and Agility are useful for offensive attackers that need a boost or two to be near unstoppable.
Cosmic Power and Amnesia are usually learned by Pokemon that are meant to tank attacks as it improves durability.
Some Psychic-type moves are used to setup the stage for various strategies. These can take up a couple of turns early in the game, but when done successfully, can almost always pave your way to victory.
Reflect and Light Screen are fundamental moves for teams that need a bit of protection from both physical and special attacks.
Screen setters, as they are called, often has the Prankster Ability and is holding Light Clay to extend the duration of the screens.
Pokemon holding Flame Orb or Toxic Orb have Trick in their moveset to inflict status conditions on foes and cause a hindrance.
The nefarious Trick Room strategy flips the tide of battle and lets the slowest, heavy-hitting Pokemon take the spotlight.
How to Build a Trick Room Team
Support Pokemon also has staple Psychic-type moves, especially when built for Doubles.
Support Pokemon can provide healing to their allies with Heal Pulse or Healing Wish.
They can also cause disruptions with Hypnosis, or limit the defensive tactics of attackers by using Imprison to block Protect.
Another facet of supporting in Doubles is redirection, where you can protect your Pokemon from receiving a hard-hitting move with Ally Switch.
With a variety of strategies based on Psychic-type status moves viable in the metagame, all of these can simply be stopped with a single Taunt, which renders status moves unusuable for three turns.
This move usually comes from leads like Incineroar or Grimmsnarl so watch out!
Using Max Mindstorm in battle creates Psychic Terrain, which not only boosts Psychic-type moves, but also protects all Pokemon in the field from priority moves.
This protects Psychic-types from Sucker Punch, a Dark-type move with increased priority!
