Pokemon Sword and Shield - List of Moves that Generate Entry Hazards

This is a list of all moves that generate entry hazards in Pokemon Sword and Shield, Isle of Armor, and the Crown Tundra DLC. Entry Hazards affect the field and cause different effects on Pokemon when they switch in. Read on to learn more about these moves, the entry hazards they generate, and their effects in battle.

Moves that Generate Entry Hazards

Moves Type Effect
G-Max Steelsurge Pokemon Steel Image A Steel-type attack that Gigantamax Copperajah use. This move scatters sharp spikes around the field.
G-Max Stonesurge Pokemon Water Image A Water-type attack that Gigantamax Drednaw use. This move scatters sharp rocks around the field.
Spikes Pokemon Ground Image The user lays a trap of spikes at the opposing team's feet. The trap hurts Pokemon that switch into battle.
Stealth Rock Pokemon Rock Image The user lays a trap of levitating stones around the opposing team. The trap hurts opposing Pokemon that switch into battle.
Sticky Web Pokemon Bug Image The user weaves a sticky net around the opposing team, which lowers their Speed stat upon switching into battle.
Toxic Spikes Pokemon Poison Image The user lays a trap of poison spikes at the feet of the opposing team. The spikes will poison opposing Pokemon that switch into battle.

Entry Hazards Effects

An entry hazard is a condition that affects one side of the field. These hazards afflict effects depending on different factors such as Pokemon-type, amount of hazards placed, and items held.

Entry Hazards are usually generated by status moves. Though there are exceptions with a couple of G-Max moves.

Entry Hazard Causes Effect
Pointed Stones Stealth Rock and
G-Max Stonesurge
Deals damage to Pokemon upon entry. The damage is treated as a Rock-type move making it strong against Bug, Fire, and Flying-type Pokemon.
Sharp Steel G-Max Steelsurge Deals damage to Pokemon upon entry. The damage is treated as a Steel-type move making it strong against Fairy, Ice and Rock-type Pokemon
Spikes Spikes Deals damage to Grounded-Pokemon upon entry. Spikes can be stacked up to three times; each one increases the damage dealt.
Sticky Web Sticky Web Reduces the speed of Grounded-Pokemon by one stage upon entry.
Poison Spikes Toxic Spikes Poisons Grounded-Pokemon upon entry. Poison Spikes can be stacked twice, the second one badly poisons the Pokemon instead.

Moves that Counter Entry Hazards

Moves Type Effect
Court Change Pokemon Normal Image With its mysterious power, the user swaps the effects on either side of the field.
Defog Pokemon Flying Image A strong wind blows away the target's barriers such as Reflect or Light Screen. This lowers the target's evasiveness
Rapid Spin Pokemon Normal Image A spin attack that can also eliminate such moves as Bind, Wrap, and Leech Seed. This also raises the user's Speed stat.

Items that Counter Entry Hazards

Item Effect
Air Balloon ImageAir Balloon An item to be held by a Pokemon. The holder will float in the air until hit. Once hit, this item will burst.
Heavy-Duty Boots ImageHeavy-Duty Boots These boots prevent the effects of traps set on the battlefield.

Grounded Poison-Type Pokemon

Poison Spikes Removal.png

Grounded Poison-type Pokemon will remove Toxic Spikes upon entry even if it's holding Heavy-Duty Boots.
