What are Natures?

How to Learn Noivern's Egg Moves

Final Stat Values HP 161 / Atk. 81 / Def. 100 / Sp.Atk. 149 / Sp.Def. 100 / Spd. 192
Ability Frisk
Held Item Heavy-Duty Boots
Moveset Tailwind
Super Fang
Taunt
Draco Meteor

These values are from base stats and ideal EVs, excluding external factors.

Noivern's high speed stat, moderate bulk, and access to Tailwind and Taunt support moves make it an excellent lead in doubles. The ability Frisk scouts opposing Pokemon's held item, allowing you to better predict your opponent's moveset and build.

Super Fang separates this utility set from other leads, allowing Noivern to support its teammate offensively by halving the opponent's health. Draco Meteor allows it to threaten frail leads and sweepers after it's finished supporting its team.

Heavy-Duty Boots is the preferred held item as it protects Noivern from entry hazards. This allows you to switch out without fear of accumulating damage from Stealth Rock.

Other Viable Moves

Hurricane A strong, Flying-type STAB move that has a 30% chance to confuse the target.
This move has 100% accuracy in rain, making it a good alternative when you're expecting to face Pelipper leads.
Roost Allows Noivern to heal damage and stay in the field longer without switching out.
Defog Allows Noivern to clear entry hazards, Reflect, Light Screen, Aurora Veil, Mist, Safeguard, and Terrain.
This move also lowers the target's evasion by 1 stage.
Shadow Ball Allows you to hit Ghost-type Pokemon that are immune to Super Fang.

Flamethrower

These values are from base stats and ideal EVs, excluding external factors.

Noivern's high speed stat and respectable movepool allow it function well as a late-game cleaner and sweeper. Thanks to the ability Infiltrator, Noivern's attacks bypass Substitute, Reflect, Light Screen, Mist, Safeguard, and Aurora Veil.

You can use this build for both Singles and Doubles play.

Strong STAB moves such as Hurricane and Draco Meteor are further boosted by Choice Specs, allowing this speedy dragon to easily KO rival sweepers such as Cinderace and take out weakend walls.

Flamethrower allows Noivern to hit Steel-type Pokemon that otherwise take little damage from its other moves.

U-Turn allows Noivern to function well as a scout. While it doesn't receive a boost from Choice Specs, this move allows Noivern to quickly pivot to a teammate that can better handle its checks and counters.

Other Viable Moves

Heat Wave Slightly stronger than flamethrower and hits both opposing Pokemon in Doubles.
Uproar A strong, special Normal-type move that prevents all Pokemon from Sleeping for 4 turns. Stops Rest+Sleep Talk sets/
Air Slash Has lower damage than Hurricane but has a 30% chance to cause the target to flinch.
Dragon Pulse Has lower damage than Draco Meteor but is more consistent and has no drawbacks.

How to Use Noivern Effectively

An Excellent Scout Thanks to Frisk

Noivern Frisk.jpg

Frisk allows Noivern to reveal your opponent's held items, helping you to better plan your next move and strategies.

One of the Fastest Tailwind Users in Doubles

Noivern Tailwind.jpg

Noivern's high speed stat and access to Tailwind make it a top choice for Doubles lead. It's faster than weather setters such as Torkoal, Hippowdon, and Tyranitar, and speed ties with Choice Scarf Pelipper without needing to hold Choice Scarf!

Super Fang Deters Bulky Pokemon

Noivern Super Fang.jpg

Noivern seperates itself from other lead Pokemon with Super Fang, giving it some offensive utility in Doubles. Bulkier Pokemon are less likely to set up and face this speedy dragon when it can cut their HP in half with one move!

Counters for Noivern

Shut down support sets with Priority Taunt

Although Noivern is well-known for it's fast Taunt, it's just as susceptible to the move - especially when used by a Pokemon that can ignore its speed stat with Prankster!

Use Faster Sweepers

Noivern no longer holds the title of fastest dragon. Dragapult is faster and can easily KO offensive Noivern, forcing it switch.
