Competitive Analysis

Expanding Force is an excellent move in Doubles that made Psychic-type Pokemon all the more threatening when Isle of Armor was released.

Powerful with Psychic Terrain

What makes Expanding Force a threat is the boost it gets when Psychic Terrain is in play. The move is more powerful when the terrain is active.

In Doubles, using the move while Psychic Terrain is active will hit both opposing Pokemon. This move is always a present threat in this format with its potential to wipe out teams easily.

Additionally, Psychic Terrain also protects Pokemon on the field from priority moves, which means you can safely use Expanding Force at the start of the battle or when your opponent changes Pokemon without the threat of Fake Out.

Indeedee (Female) a Staple

The leading name for this strategy is Indeedee (Female), as it can have the Psychic Surge Ability and can learn Expanding Force.

Psychic Surge will create Psychic Terrain once Indeedee (Female) is sent out to the field, removing any need for setting up the terrain by using the move.

It can also use Expanding Force, meaning you can pair Indeedee (Female) with your main Expanding Force user to deal devastating damage to your opponent's Pokemon.

Expanding Force Counters

Expanding Force can be countered by simply changing the terrain. This can be done by sending out Pokemon that has an Ability that can change the terrain, or by using moves or Max Moves that can do the same thing.

Another strategy is sending out Dark-type Pokemon on the field. Not only are they immune to Psychic-type moves, they can also use super-effective Dark-type moves to neutralize these types of teams.
