Grass-type Moves in Competitive Play

Grass-type Utility Moves

Grassy Slide
Where Grass-type moves really shine is the utility they bring. Many offensive moves have uniqe secondary effects that take advantage of different mechanics.

These include offensive staples such as Grass Knot, which deals more damage the heavier the Pokemon are, as well as Grassy Glide - a move that has increased priority when there's a Grassy Terrain active in the battlefield.

Grass-type Support Moves

Spore

Grass-type moves are also very common support moves as many deal status conditions or healing.

These include the moves Spore and Leech Seed, which are two of the most common Grass-type support moves in the metagame.

Grass-Type Max Moves

Max Overgrowth

Grass-type moves turn into Max Overgrowth during Dynamax, with the secondary effect of turning the field into a Grassy-Terrain.

The move itself is quite uncommon in competitive play simply due to the fact that both Tapu Bulu and Rillaboom providing the same effect with their Abilities on switch.

The move does still have a niche in stall teams that can benefit from the passive healing the terrain provides.
