This page explains Pokemon types and their effectiveness, including immunity and weakness chart for the game Pokemon Sword and Shield. Read on to find out which types are super-effective or not very effective on your foes!
List of Contents
The type effectiveness chart below lists all the effective move type for a specific type of Pokemon. Check each move to know which is best to use and which to avoid based on the Pokemon's type.
Type Effectiveness is the system which involves interactions between Pokemon types to determine the overall damage output. It functions similar to Rock, Paper, Scissors in that while certain Pokemon types have moves that deal double damage to others, they are in turn countered by another type. Using it properly means fighting your opponent with a Pokemon that can deal additional damage while reducing the damage they receive.
The total damage dealt by a Pokemon depends on the type effectiveness of that move.
Depending on your active Pokemon's type and the type of Pokemon you are up against, you may inflict or receive 2x or half damage (or 1x damage if the types do not effect eachother).

Pokemon Type Interactions (Electric-type) | ||
---|---|---|
Electric Pokemon | Deal 2x Damage | To Flying-type Pokemon |
However, Electric Pokemon | Deal only 1/2 Damage | To other Electric-type Pokemon |
Meanwhile, Electric Pokemon | Deal no damage | To Ground-type Pokemon |
Super Effective | 2x Damage |
---|---|
Regular Effectiveness | 1x Damage (Same Size) |
Not Very Effective | 1/2 Damage |
Ineffective | No Damage (Immunity) |
Some Pokemon belong to two categories instead of one. In this case, they may sometimes be hit with a move that is super effective against both of their types.
Rock
|

Fire-Flying
|
In this case, a super effective move could deal 4x damage to the defending Pokemon, so long as its two types are vulnerable to the move.
On the other hand, the damage output could become lower if one of the Pokemon's two types is resistant to the attacking Pokemon's move.
Both types are vulnerable | 4x Damage |
---|---|
Type-1 is vulnerable and Type-2 is resistant | 1x (Regular) Damage |
Type-1 and Type-2 are both resistant | 0.25x Damage |
Either of the two types is immune (regardless of the second) | No Damage |
