Bulbasaur and Squirtle

Freebies are nice, missing out on the perfect Pokemon is not! Here's our tips on which Kanto Starter you should choose in the Isle of Armor DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield for Nintendo Switch.

How to Get Squirtle and Bulbasaur

Catch the 3 Slowpokes

Fast Slowpokes at the scene of the crime

After arriving at the Pokemon Dojo and fighting Mustard, three unnaturally fast Slowpokes will steal the uniform of your Rival (Klara or Avery) and run off. Bringing back all pieces of the uniform is all you need to do to get either Bulbasaur or Squirtle on your team!

Charmander seems not to be offered due to its availability in the main story.

Which Starter Should You Choose?

Both Starters are Fine

Choose Bulbasaur or Squirtle
While you can never go wrong with Gigantamax Kanto Starters, we recommend choosing Squirtle for Shield players, to avoid being weak to Avery's Pokemon. On the other hand, Bulbasaur will be perfect for stomping through the Tower of Water.

Both start at level 5 and will need love and care before they can truly shine, however. If your team is strong already, you can relax and choose your favorite!

Gigantamax Forms

Gigantamax Venusaur and Blastoise

In addition to the previously-available Gigantamax Charizard, the other Kanto Starters get their time in the spotlight as well. The Pokemon you choose at the Dojo will already be able to Gigantamax, no Max Soup needed!
