Glastrier's low speed makes it a great user of Avalanche, surprising its usual checks and counters by surviving a blow and retaliating with a powerful Ice-type Move.
Swords Dance boosts the power of Glastrier's physical attacks by two stages. Avalanche is its main STAB move, and due to its low speed stat, will always have its power doubled to 120 as long as Glastrier survives a hit.
It's last two moves are for coverage. High Horsepower is a Ground-type move that hits Fire, Rock, and Steel-types for super effective damage, while Body Press is a Fighting-type move that uses Glastrier's Defense stat. Even with no investment, this move still hits hard due to Glastrier's high defense stat.
We're using a standard bulky attacking spread with full investment in HP and Attack, with the remaining 4 EVs placed in Defense.
Chilling Neigh is Glastrier's only ability. When it knocks out an opposing Pokemon, it gets a +1 boost in Attack.
Glastrier has two options for held item.
Sitrus Berry restores Glastrier's HP by 25% of its maximum HP if its health falls below 50%.
Lum Berry, on the other hand, cures status effects such as Burn, Paralysis, and Sleep.
Close Combat | A stronger Fighting-type move but lowers Glastrier's Defense and Special Defense. |

Moveset | ・Swords Dance ・Icicle Crash ・High Horsepower ・Body Press |
With Trick Room support, Glastrier becomes a fast and powerful sweeper in both Singles and Doubles. Few Pokemon can outspeed the Wild Horse Pokemon once Trick Room is up.
Swords Dance boosts the power of Glastrier's physical attacks by two stages. Icicle Crash is its main STAB move, and has a 30% to cause the target to flinch.
It's last two moves are for coverage. Stomping Tantrum is a Ground-type move that becomes a base 150 Power attack if its previous move misses. This has great synergy with Icicle Crash, which has a 10% chance to miss.
Body Press is a Fighting-type move that uses Glastrier's Defense stat. Even with no investment, this move still hits hard due to Glastrier's high defense stat.

Despite being an Ice-type, Glastrier's high mixed defenses allow it to withstand even super effective hits. This, along with its middling speed, lets it abuse Avalanche, which always powers up to 120 Base Power as long as it gets hit first.
Glastrier is an excellent candidate for Trick Room sweeper. Unlike others in the Metagame though, it doesn't learn Trick Room which means it must rely on its teammates to set up Trick Room for it.
Glastrier fits perfectly in Trick Room teams, although it can't set up the effect itself. It's best used in a balanced team that has a lead trick room setter, as well as a backup setter.
Porygon2 | Glastrier | Swampert | Cresselia | Corviknight | Hatterene |
Lead Trick Room Setter | Setup Sweeper | Defensive Pivot | Backup Trick Room Setter | Special Wall | Special Sweeper |
Porgyon2 and Cresselia are the Trick Room setters for this team, with Porgyon2 taking the lead as its Trace ability can provide additional utility.
Thanks to Glastrier's natural bulk, it can freely switch in after Porgyon2. As a safety precaution against checks and counters, Glastrier can also switch out to Swampert and Cresselia as their typings let them resist Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves directed at the Wild Horse Pokemon.
Weakness |
---|
Despite its massive bulk, Glastrier's lower Special Defense makes it more susceptible to special sweepers.

Despite Glastrier's massive attack stat, it has a relatively shallow movepool that leaves it easily walled by certain defensive Pokemon.
