Normal-type Moves in Competitive Play

Fake Out.png

Due to the nature of the type and the lack of super effective damage, Normal-type moves have been used mostly for utility and support, though it has some good synergy with Water-type Moves.

Normal-type Utility Moves

There's an array of Normal-type utility moves to choose from, with Fake Out, Rapid Spin, and Tri Attack being staples in competitive play due to the group support they provide on top of damage.

These utility moves aren't restricted to defensive teams, with Substitue, Belly Drum, and Swords Dance all commonly found in the current metagame's tiop physical attackers.

Normal-type Support Moves

Helping Hand.png

Many Normal-type moves are integral to the Doubles Metagame, such as the moves Follow Me and Helping Hand. The former provides valuable redirection support while the latter is typically carried by a lead support to boost the power of it's ally's next move.

Normal-type Dynamax Moves

Max Strike.png

With the addition of Dynamax, Normal-type moves have seen more play even on non-supporting Pokemon. This is due to the addition of Max Guard and Max Strike.

Max Guard

Normal-type status moves become Max Guard during Dynamax and is the only move in the game that fully blocks Dynamax Moves - something that not even Protect and Detect can do!

Max Strike

Normal-type attacking moves become Max Strike during Dynamax and is a strong if a bit underrated utility move that lowers the opponent and it's ally's Speed by 1 stage.
