Comfey's unique ability and access to many support movepools make it one of the best clerics in the Doubles Metagame.
Floral Healing is Comfey's main healing move. This move restores 1/2 of the target's max HP and is boosted to 2/3 of the target's max HP when Grassy Terrain is active. Draining Kiss provides self recovery. damaging both opposing targets and restoring Comfey's HP by 75% of the damage it deals.
Comfey's last two moves are for group support. Helping Hand allows it to boost its teammates next move by 50% while Aromatheraphy cures all of its teammates existing status conditions.
We're using a more defensive-oriented EV spread with full investment in HP and Defense, with the remaining EVs on Sp.Def. This gives Comfey well-balanced defensive stats that allow it to take hits on both its physical and special attacks better.
Triage is Comfey's best ability, giving all of its healing moves +3 priority. This priority boost applies to move status healing moves and damaging moves that have a secondary healing effect.
We're giving Comfey Leftovers to provide passive healing. Although this held item is often inferior to Sitrus Berry in Doubles, Comfey already has powerful recovery moves and the constant passive recovery is a nice addition to its survivability.
Giga Drain | An alternative to Helping Hand that also gets a Triage boost and allows Comfey to hit Water-type Pokemon for super effective damage. |
---|---|
Synthesis | A powerful recovery move that has situational use in Sun Teams, but is overall less reliable and makes Comfey susceptible to Taunt. |
Calm Mind | Allows Comfey to become a bulkier support Pokemon with offensive capabilities. |
Comfey's claim to fame is its Triage ability, which gives it a +3 priority boost whenever it uses a healing move. This means even without max speed investment, Comfey will use its healing moves even before Whimsicott and Talonflame!
As a result, Comfey is played best as an offensive healer. When it's not topping up its ally HP with Floral Healing, it's hitting both opposing Pokemon with Draining Kiss.
Comfey is easy to fit into many teams as it provides great raw healing and can cure status conditions for its allies.
Since Comfey plays as an offensive healer, it fits right at home in offensive-oriented doubles teams. it's +3 priority healing moves allow it to keep its teammates and itself healthy without losing offensive momentum.

When facing an opposing team with Comfey, prioritize it as KOing it early in the game can cripple the rest of the team. Fortunately, there are Pokemon that can take it out easily even with full HP and Defense investment.
