Competitive Analysis

Psychic is probably the most iconic Psychic-type move and is one of the most commonly used move of the type.

Psychic has a chance to lower its target's Special Defense, which allows the special move to hit harder!

Psychic vs Psyshock

The most important aspect between Psychic and Psyshock is the type of damage it does.

Psychic's damage is special, which means how much damage the move will do is dependent on the target's Special Defense stat.

On the other hand, Psyshock's damage is physical, and calculates its damage based on the target's Defense stat.

In situations where a target has a high Special Defense stat, Psyshock will be more effective compared to Psychic as it will basically ignore this stat.

Against Pokemon with high Defense stat, Psychic will be the better move.
