Competitive Analysis

Safeguard prevents status conditions for five turns and the move has a very wide distribution, with defensive staples such as Toxapex and Jellicent being able to learn them.

While it's appealing to defensive-oriented teams, most of the bulky Pokemon that can learn it have better options and often can't spare a moveslot for the move.

Additionally, moves such as Misty Terrain provide the same status immunity with more group utiluty. Tapu Fini, for example, can set up the effect just by switching in thanks to its Misty Surge Ability.
