Psyshock is a special Psychic-type move that is very useful on certain situations.
Even if this move is special and is dependent on the user's Special Attack stat, the damage it does is physical and will be calculated based on its target's Defense stat.
This allows offensive attackers to bypass specially defensive Pokemon's durabilities, especially those that have been boosted Amnesia!
Do take note, however, that Light Screen, and not Reflect, will reduce Psyshock's damage.
The most important aspect between Psyshock and Psychic is the type of damage it does.
Psyshock's damage is physical, and calculates its damage based on the target's Defense stat.
On the other hand, Psychic's damage is special, which means how much damage the move will do is dependent on the target's Special Defense stat.
In situations where a target has a high Special Defense stat, Psyshock will be more effective compared to Psychic as it will basically ignore this stat.
Against Pokemon with high Defense stat, Psychic will be the better move.
Psyshock can be found in the Loop Lagoon area of the Isle of Armor DLC.
Psyshock (TR25) is available to purchase from the Watt Traders in the Wild Area for 3000 Watts.
The Watt Traders' selection of TM and TRs changes everyday so make sure to check what's in stock!
It's also possible to get Psyshock (TR25) from Psychic-type Max Raid dens as a reward for defeating or catching the resident Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokemon.
It's also possible to get Psyshock (TR25) from the Cram-o-Matic, although the chances are still low even when using the right items.
