To unlock The Truth Shrouded in Shadow, you must have first completed the previous subquest of Cataclysm's Quickening, Into the Deepwater Murk!
Into the Deepwater Murk Quest Guide
Head to the production zone to search for Lyney again. Talk to him once you find him.
With Lyney in tow, head to the infirmary in secret, only to find that Lynette missing. Because of this, search for clues in the infirmary to know more about where she went. Investigate the beds first, the table, and then the secret passage.
After checking the piece of paper on the ground, Lyney bolts to the Duke's Office. Note that the infirmary is located above the office, so you can just glide down towards it instead of using the elevators.
During the cutscene with Lyney and the Duke's confrontation, he will ask you questions regarding the ''hidden rules'' of the Fortress of Meropide. Keep in mind that you'll have to be accurate answering Wriothesley's Interrogation Questions.
Wriothesley Interrogation Answers
Once the events have unfolded after Clorinde rushes in with Freminet, try to understand the situation of the people around. This simply means talking to Lyney's group, and Wriothesley's!
Afterwards, go back to the Infirmary with Freminet to quickly rest and recuperate. Talk to Freminet, as he recounts the events of what had happened that led him to his condition.
Once Freminet wakes up in the cutscene, he'll talk about what happened to him. In this part of the quest, you will be using Freminet as a trial character to explore the unknown area.
As Freminet, look for clues concerning Childe. Follow the quest marker until you reach a mechanism puzzle that also serves as a path. To progress further, you'll have to reach the platform above using the mechanism!

| 1 | Once you encounter the mechanism, head up the stairs on the right. |
| 2 | Then, start the mechanism on top of the stairs. This puts the path mechanism to go down to the first level. |
| 3 | Following the path in the mechanism, head to the other mechanism. |
| 4 | Start the mechanism and the path will move to the other side. Following the path will allow you to get to the second floor. |
| 5 | Climb up the second floor and you'll see two mechanisms. The one nearest to the stairs can bring up the path and the one furthest will rotate it. |
| 6 | There's a block on the second floor if you bring the path up before rotating it, it won't be able to turn and allow you passage. |
| 7 | Instead, bring the path down or while it's on the first floor. Use the second mechanism to rotate it below. |
| 8 | After that, use the mechanism near the stairs to bring it up and head over the path! |
After passing through the mechanism, head deep within until you see a flooded area. Dive into the water to continue your investigation, and swim until you encounter the Primordial Sea Water. Take note that Freminet's HP will decrease, as you do this!
Unable to return to shore quickly, Freminet's memory cuts off with him fainting, and a blurry image of Clorinde rushing towards him comes into view. Talk to Lyney afterwards!
