How to Unlock Tanuki-Bayashi in the Forest
Complete the Prerequisite Quests
Tanuki-Bayashi in the Forest is a part of the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual quest series. You must first complete Sacrificial Offering to unlock the Tanuki-Bayashi in the Forest quest.

Search for the Source of the Strange Voice
When you reach Chinju Forest, a strange voice will call out to you and ask you to find them. Head to the large Tanuki statue up the path past the red Torii gates.
Defeat the Hilichurls
Some Hilichurls and a Mitachurl will be standing by the statue, so defeat them!
Talk to the Weird Statue
Talk to the large Tanuki statue, which turns out to be Ioroi, long trapped in stone. He will tell you about how he got trapped there, and then ask you to look for three little Tanuki.
Find the Little Tanuki
You can find the three little Tanuki in the Chinju Forest, hiding as various items.
- The First Tanuki is right down the path from Ioroi, pretending to be a torch that you need to light up.
- Another little Tanuki is a barrel on the rock in the middle of the forest, by a small statue. Both are surrounded by hilichurls you need to defeat!
- The Third and last Tanuki is southeast of the forest, towards the stream!
Report Back to Ioroi
Head back to Ioroi to get the Ward item, which is needed for the Shrine Cleansing. Ioroi will then tell Kichibouchi to show you the way to the barrier.
Head to the Location of the Barrier
Follow Kichibouchi down to a spot near the beach. He will make a wall disappear and reveal the Chinju Shrine.

Use the Ward item and solve the puzzle by adjusting the Notch Symbols to match the pattern shown in the Torii gate.

The main notch will always have the ① symbol when you activate it through the "Pray" button!
Defeat Ochimusha
After solving the puzzle, an Electro Ochimusha will appear that you must defeat!
Talk to Hanachirusato or Kazari
After the fight, Hanachirusato (Kazari) will appear and talk for a bit before disappearing again. Continue on to the next shrine in either the Cleansing Defilement sub-quest or the Yougou Cleansing sub-quest!
