Cleansing Defilement is the third quest under the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual quest chain in the Narukami Island for Genshin Impact 2.0. See how to unlock the World Quest, its walkthrough, and the complete rewards here in this guide!
List of Contents
To unlock Cleansing Defilement, you must have first completed the previous subquest of the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual quest chain, Sacrificial Offering!
Sacrificial Offering Quest Guide
There are three remaining barriers that you need to cleanse, which are located in the Kamisato Estate, in Araumi, and in the Chinju Forest. The Chinju Forest Barrier is part of the Tanuki-Bayashi in the Forest Quest, so cleansing it also completes that quest!
You can cleanse the Chinju Forest Barrier by completing the Tanuki-Bayashi in the Forest Quest, which automatically unlocks after completing the Sacrificial Offering quest!

Objectives | |
---|---|
1 | To cleanse the Kamisato Estate Barrier, get the ward first from the Kitsune statue using the Memento Lens, beside a tree, east of the estate. This tree is located few steps away from the nearby Waverider! |
2 | Sail to the island with the fox statues on it and scan the little Earth Fox in the hole in the middle using the Memento Lens. This will open up a tunnel. |
3 | Down the tunnel you will find the shrine. Use the Ward item on it and solve the puzzle, then fight the two Ochimusha that appear. |
4 | To solve the Kamisato Estate Barrier, adjust the notches to match the pattern from the shrine. Follow the barrier above for the overview of their adjustments! |
6 | In a clockwise direction, go towards the notch south of the main notch, and do not touch it. If you've adjusted it beforehand, make sure it has two magatama symbols to it. |
7 | Then, go to the next notch and adjust it once. Doing so should make three magatama symbols appear on top of it. |
8 | Afterwards, the next notch won't have any symbols to it at first, so adjust it once. It should have two magatama symbols after. |
9 | Lastly, adjust the next notch three times. This should make three magatama symbols appear on top of it. Head back to the main notch, and pray to solve the puzzle! |
Objectives | |
---|---|
1 | The ward is actually past the shrine location, but both need a bit of work to access. You need to open the fate in the large round structure in the middle of Araumi to reach them. |
2 | To open the gate you first need to open the Electro Monuments indicated on the map. This will unlock a mechanishm you need to activate next. |
3 | Climb the tower and you will see three Earth Kitsune hiding inside. Use the Memento Lens to scan all of them. |
4 | As you do, three switches will appear. Press all of these to open the way down. |
5 | Once down, scan the nearby Earth Kitsune to unlock a Thunder Sakura Bough. |
6 | Grab the Electrogranum and head through the nearby barrier. Here you will find a Fox Statue you need to use Electro on. |
7 | Get the Ward item from the Fox and head back outside to the shrine. As always, a puzzle and a fight awaits you. |
8 | After using the Scroll-Shaped Ward to activate the shrine, adjust the notches surrounding it to solve the Araumi Shrine puzzle. In this guide, we will adjust the notches in a clockwork direction, starting from the main notch. |
9 | From the main notch, go to the small shrine to its left and adjust it once, bringing the symbols from two magatamas to three. |
10 | Then head to the small Earth Kitsune and scan it using the Memento Lens to reveal the shrine inside. It should have two magatama symbols. |
11 | Next is to climb the tree until a hidden Earth Kitsune comes into view. Scan it again using the lens, then adjust the shrine four times, or until two magatama symbols appear. Head to the main notch, and defeat the Ochimusha after praying! |
