Competitive Analysis

Mean Look is a great utility move that permanently traps a target in the field, making it unable to switch out. The target cannot escape until the user faints or is switched out.

This move goes through most protection moves with Crafty Shield as an exception.

This strategy is useful especially when the target is poisoned or badly poisoned, which traps them in the field and lets them take damage every turn.

Counters to Mean Look

Ghost-type Pokemon are unaffected by Mean Look. Additionally, those with Shed Shell or the Run Away Ability can still escape even if they are under the effects of Mean Look.

Using moves like Parting Shot, Flip Turn, and others will enable a Pokemon under Mean Look to escape, as well as getting hit by moves like Dragon Tail.

Mean Look Locations

Mean Look can only be learned by Default, Level Up, or via Egg Move.
