How to Unlock Beneath the Crystal Rock

Complete the Prerequisites

Quest Unlock Requirements
	Aha! Looks like Beneath the Crystal Rock is not locked behind any quest!

Beneath the Crystal Rock is a new world quest added in Version 5.0 and is available immediately after unlocking the Natlan region.

Go to Tequemecan Valley and Talk to Titu

After unlocking the Teleport Waypoint in Sulfurous Veins, head to the eastern Teleport Waypoint under the cliff. Titu will be near it, so talk to him to start the Shadows of the Mountain quest chain and the Beneath the Crystal Rock quest.

Beneath the Crystal Rock Walkthrough

Go to the Lesser Shadow Pin with Titu

After talking with Titu, head down the path and make your way to the highlighted area. You'll come across some enemies so take them out first. Approach the area and you'll see an inscription near the entrance and the Shadow Pin.

Touch the Golden Inscription

Approach the inscription and touch it. It will go towards the Shadow Pin and merge with it. A dialogue then happens between you and Titu. He will ask you to repair the inscription.

Repair the Inscription

To repair the inscription, you must indwell a Tepetlisaurus first. There's one Spiritsconce nearby, so use that and then interact with the inscription. This will activate the Repair Solid Phlogiston Nail puzzle.

Drill Into the Ground to Break Engraved Stone Pillars

Engraved Stone Pillars will start appearing once you start the repair. Using the Tepetlisaurus' Drill Ability, drill underground and break the Engraved Stone Pillars by going through them and pressing attack once.

This is quicker than the Body Slam ability the Tepetlisaurus has and is great for repair since it has a time limit. Destroying the stone pillars also gives you Phlogiston, fueling your indwelling.

Avoid Unstable Phlogiston Crystals

Alongside Engraved Stone Pillars, Unstable Phlogiston Crystals will also appear. These explode when you get near them, so be vigilant and avoid them while breaking stone pillars.

Use Molten Fissures to Break Pillars on Walls

The gauge will start filling up once you break some Engraved Stone Pillars. Keep this up until a Molten Fissure appears, which allows you to traverse the walls where some of the Engraved Stone Pillars appear.

Continue breaking them until the gauge is full and some enemies will show up.

Defeat the Rift Hounds

Exit from the indwelling and defeat the Rift Hounds that appear to finish the repair. After defeating them, the Shadow Pin will come to a halt. Titu will talk to you and ask you to go to the next Shadow Pin.

Go to the next Lesser Shadow Pin with Titu

The next Shadow Pin is located southwest of the first Shadow Pin. Head down the path and cross the crystal bridge until you see some enemies and a destructible rock. Use the bombs nearby to get it out of the way and proceed.

Examine the Lesser Shadow Pin

Make your way down the path and unlock the Teleport Waypoint nearby. You'll see the Shadow Pin in the cave ahead. An inscription will appear near a Hilichurl once you approach it, so Titu will ask you to try to repair it.

Repair the Inscription Again

Approach the inscription and the Hilichurl will attack. Defeat it and then interact with the inscription. This will send it towards the Shadow Pin and merge with it. Titu will then ask you to find the other inscriptions in the area south of the Shadow Pin.

Find the Inscriptions Scattered in Other Locations

The other inscriptions are scattered in the highlighted area south of the Shadow Pin. Glide past the Shadow Pin to the Spiritsconce below.

Use it then drill up the wall with the wooden planks using the Tepetlisaurus' ability to make it to the other side. You can also climb the wall, but it takes longer. Keep heading down the path until you come across another cave.

Search for the Inscriptions

In the cave, you'll see some hilichurls and some ruins. Take out the hilichurls first then head down the rocks. A small dialogue will trigger once you approach the Spiritsconce and you'll have to find a way down.

Find a Way Down

Use the Spiritsconce and indwell into a Tepetlisaurus. Using its Drill ability, you will see some circles on the ground where a small square of rocks is. Pass through each circle and attack once to reveal what they're hiding. You'll get a Common Chest and the way down after hitting the circles.

Continue Exploring

After falling into the hole, you will end up in the water and get a Pyroculus. You'll see some small waterfalls and some Koholasauri. Defeat them and then use their Spiritsconce to indwell.

Traverse up the waterfalls using the Koholasauri and make your way to the end of the cave, where you'll see the inscription floating in the middle of the water.

Find a Way to Touch the Inscription

Once you approach the inscription, the water level will rise. Find a way to lower the water level. First, head northwest into a doorway where you'll see a hilichurl digging near a switch.

Find the Switch and Use It

Take out the hilichurl and then go onto the ground. Use the switch and the water level will reduce by a little. Next, swim to the small cavern on the opposite side where you see crystal shards hanging from above.

Use Unstable Phlogiston to Destroy Rocks

In the small cavern, you'll see some Unstable Phlogiston Crystals. Approach them using the Koholasauri and they will destroy the rocks beneath the water, which drains it fully.

Follow the Inscription Back to the Lesser Shadow Pin

Go back to the inscription and interact with it. It will fly off towards the Shadow Pin and leave a Spiritway for you to ride on. Indwell the Koholasauri and approach it to ride the Spiritway back to the Shadow Pin.

You'll also get a Precious Chest on the stairs and a Red Metal Key on the way back.

Complete the Sealing Ritual

Back at the Shadow Pin, complete the sealing ritual by repairing the inscription. Once again, use the Spiritsconce nearby and indwell into a Tepetlisaurus to start the *Repair Solid Phlogiston Nail puzzle.

Drill Into the Ground and Break Engraved Stone Pillars

Engraved Stone Pillars will once again start appearing after you start. Like earlier, use the Tepetlisaurus' Drill Ability to drill underground and break the Engraved Stone Pillars.

Again, destroying the stone pillars also gives you Phlogiston, which keeps fueling your indwelling. Keep in mind to avoid Unstable Phlogiston Crystals since they will explode once you approach them.

Avoid Falling Into Molten Phlogiston

After destroying stone pillars for a bit, the ground will start crumbling and then falling once you pass them. Be sure to quickly maneuver and turn to avoid falling into the molten Phlogiston.

Also, use Molten Fissures when they appear since they make traversing walls easier.

Head to the last Lesser Shadow Pin

After the repair, the Shadow Pin will halt and burrow back into the ground. Titu will then ask you to head to the last Shadow Pin, located south of the Teleport Waypoint in Sulfurous Veins.

Use the Waypoint and then jump down. The Shadow Pin will be burrowed in some rocks and you will easily see it while gliding down.

Investigate the Area Beneath the Canyon

Once you approach it, a dialogue with Titu will start. During the dialogue, the ground will start shaking. You and Titu will then go to the canyon where the big Shadow Pin is.

He will ask you to investigate the canyon, so glide down towards it. After approaching it, enemies will appear.

Defeat the Opponents

Defeat the enemies that appear and a cutscene will trigger. The big Shadow Pin will fall and make a hole in the ground, which Titu will ask you to investigate in the next quest.
