Chess Piece Activation Device Locations in Sumeru Desert

Found inside Sumeru Desert Ruins

You can find the Chess Activation Devices on the following locations:

1. Aaru Village's Border Fort
2. Khaj-Nisut
3. Khemenu Temple's Soulferry
4. The Mausoleum of King Deshret
5. Opet Hall's Deshret's Pillar
6. Safhe Shatranj's Temple of Gurabad
7. Mt. Damavand's Glass Goblet

Note that the Mausoleum and Mt. Damavand devices can only appear after obtaining all chess pieces.

Border Fort Device in Aaru Village

Teleport to the waypoint in Aaru Village and just walk a couple of steps in front of the Village Chief's House. The Activation Device should be right on the ledge overlooking the village.

Khaj-Nisut Device

Return to Khaj-Nisut and use the Four-Leaf Sigils to see the device in front of the entrance to the ruins.

Soulferry Device in Khemenu Temple

Teleport to the waypoint under Khemenu Temple and immediately go to your left. The path should take you to the device in the middle of the corridor, which will also take you to the big boat area.

Mausoleum of King Deshret Device

Mausoleum of King Deshret's device is only obtainable and installable after obtaining all five chess pieces. This device is found just in front of the Mausoleum of King Deshret. This device also requires The Fallen Falcon quest completed!

It will also move itself towards Khemenu Temple, but it should only take you a few walks before you are able to pick it up.

King Deshret's Pillar Device in Opet Hall

Although the location shows the Mausoleum, the actual entrance is underground in Opet Hall. Teleport on the northern waypoint and head up the stairs to get to this device.

Temple of Gurabad Device in Safhe Shatranj

Right above the chessboard puzzle in front of the Gurabad Ruins, the Activation Device is sitting on top of the ledge.

Deshret's Glass Goblet Device in Mt. Damavand

Mt. Damavand's device is only obtainable and installable after obtaining all five chess pieces. You can immediately see the device by teleporting to the hidden waypoint in Mt. Damavand. It moves around for a bit before becoming obtainable.

If you're not able to see this device at first, make sure you have completed The Fallen Falcon quest!

How to Use Chess Piece Activation Device

Used to Activate Teleportation to Chess Pieces

Activation Devices are installed to the Chess Pieces in Safhe Shatranj to enable the teleportation function. You must find the chess pieces first (except Deshret's Pillar and Glass Goblet) for the devices to appear and be placed.

Chess Piece Locations and How to Use

Chessboard Puzzle Location

The chessboard where you can place Chess Pieces and install Activation Devices is found in Safhe Shatranj. You can only access it after playing through The Dirge of Bilqis.

Placing a Chess Piece

To place an Activation Device, once you have placed the appropriate Chess Piece, go to glowing spot on the chess piece. Press the Install button, and offer the Activation Device.

Teleport to a Desert Location

Upon installing the activation devices to the chess pieces, you can press Trigger, which teleports you to the location where you found the device. Essentially, the chessboard area will become a teleportation hub!

Rewards a Remarkable Chest

Upon installing an Activation Device, you will be rewarded with a Remarkable Chest, which contains furnishings! Installing all 7 also grants you to the achievement, La Luna Rossa.
