You can only unlock Mycological Investigation once you've unlocked the camp site from completing the Perils in the Dark quest of the The Chasm's Underground Mines.

Show a Starshroom to Khedive to Unlock
To unlock the Mycological Investigation in The Chasm quest, talk to Khedive in the Underground Mines camp while having at least one Starshroom in your inventory to unlock the quest. Once done, start the quest by selecting ''So, about these mushrooms...''.

How to Enter The Chasm Underground Mines
Shining Mushrooms Locations
Collect 8 Shining Mushrooms
Shining Mushrooms are Starshrooms, which can be found in the Underground Mines of the Chasm. They can found near the banks of water sources.
If you already have eight Starshrooms, you can immediately talk to Khedive to complete the quest.
