When players reach the Adventure Rank of 16, they'll gain access to online multiplayer. Until then, players will need to play solo in order to learn the ropes of the game before jumping into online.
In Multiplayer mode, four players can join in together and set out on an adventure. One play will play the role of Host, and the other three players will request to join the game, then join in as guests in the Host's save file.
Players can only join other player's worlds if they're the same World Level or lower. They can't join a higher world level players game.
Genshin Impact supports Crossplay for all platforms, including iOS, Android, PC, and PS4! Regardless of the system you'll be playing on, you can join friends in their world or invite them to yours.
Unfortunately, online play is limited by region, so you'll need to make sure to choose the same server as your friends to ensure you can play together with them. Keep in mind that you cannot switch servers after starting the game, so choose carefully when deciding your server.
On PS4, you won't be able to choose your server at all, which is instead reliant on the region of your PSN account. Be sure to keep this in mind when deciding what platform to play on.
Online multiplayer allows all players to freely explore the Host's world. Any warp points the Host has unlocked are available for other players to use as well.
Although they are free to explore the world, guests in a Host's save file are highly limited in the actions they can perform. As such, there's not much motivation to go off alone, and playing together with friends is likely to be the main draw of online play.
Playing through dungeons multiple times can help players level up and grind for item drops. Since advancing through these dungeons will be faster with multiple players, this may prove to be one of the primary appeals of the game's online multiplayer.
After progressing far enough in the game, you'll unlock Daily Quests, which can be completed up to four times in a single day. When completing one of these quests, you'll gain points toward your adventurer rank and materials, so there's merit in completing them as many times as allowed, and playing online will make this go more smoothly and add to the fun factor.
Genshin Impact doesn't have any combat with other players at this time. Don't worry about having to fight other high-level players – the online play is strictly cooperative.
Because Genshin Impact is a free game, players are not required to have a subscription to PlayStation Plus in order to play the game online.
And since crossplay is available, you'll be able to enjoy playing online with players from other platforms as well!
Our team had the opportunity to try Genshin Impact's online multiplayer during the closed beta test, and thoroughly enjoyed the implementation. There were no points where it felt that multiplayer was highly necessary during the beta test, and enemies gain HP as more players join in, so multiplayer will not directly multiply your battle power or make the game a cakewalk.
If you're playing online with four players who all have well-built characters, your adventure will proceed more smoothly, but it's not enough to completely alter the experience, so from our impression, the game can be enjoyed easily either in single-player mode or online.
