A Free 5-Star selector where you can claim a Standard Character will be given to every player in each Anniversary Versions starting from Genshin Impact 5.0. Learn how to obtain the free character and the best standard 5-star character to choose in this guide!

How to Get the Free 5-Star Character

Access from the Event Screen

Genshin - A Quest to Kindle Ancient Flames Event - Choosing a Character

To claim your free 5-star character, go to the Event Screen in-game to access the anniversary event. Click on Invite Character to start selecting your chosen unit.

Note that the game will prompt you again to confirm your choice.

Available Every Anniversary Version

It was confirmed in the 5.0 livestream that for every anniversary versions, players can choose one free 5-star character from the standard banner!

They also confirmed that more characters will be added in the Standard Banner in the future, which means the character pool for this selector may get bigger every year!

1 Genshin - Tighnari Tighnari ・The standard's Best DPS that can carry you throughout all regions from early levels. He is also a bow user, which is helpful for the myriad of Time Trial Challenges and Puzzles.
2 Genshin - Mona Mona ・Superb in terms of exploration, especially on aquatic areas. Also provides good Hydro application and damage amplification from her burst.
3 Genshin - Jean Jean ・Great healer who can also deal falling damage against enemies, and burst healing for the entire party, with decent damage to boot due to her ATK scaling. Replaces Barbara as your healer.
4 Genshin - Keqing Keqing ・Fast and quick DPS that is also easy to ascend and control. She can also use her Teleport to access cliffs or higher areas like in Liyue.
・Works better with a Dendro character like the Dendro Traveler, although you'll have to go to the Sumeru Region to unlock them first.
5 Genshin - Diluc Diluc ・Strong DPS character for newer players.
・Can help with Pyro application for puzzles, or breaking ores with his Claymore.
6 Genshin - Dehya Dehya ・Provides interruption resistance for the party and damage mitigation, but the party still takes damage.
・Serviceable damage but if you're looking for a Pyro character who can carry you with sheer DPS, Diluc is the better pick at C0.
7 Genshin - Qiqi Qiqi ・One of the highest healing potential but you may find the cooldowns a bit limiting especially if you need it in a pinch.
・In terms of healing and utility, Jean is the better pick for most situations.

Best Character for Long-Time Players

1 Genshin - Jean Jean ・If you have Furina, Jean is one of her best healers, and can also provide the effects of Viridescent Venerer.
・More constellation also gives Anemo RES down to enemies, which characters like Xiao or Wanderer can use.
2 Genshin - Mona Mona ・One of the best one-shot buffers in the game due to her Elemental Burst effect. Any DPS that uses her, especially on Vaporize and Freeze, will see a large value if you don't have someone like Furina or Kazuha.
3 Genshin - Tighnari Tighnari ・When you have a proper Quicken team with a strong Electro like Yae Miko with Nahida and Zhongli, Tighnari is one of the game's best nuker that also scales well with more constellations.
4 Genshin - Dehya Dehya ・Off-field Pyro Application and interruption resistance are welcome for many teams that don't require a healer, like Arlecchino teams.
・Takes more priority if you already have all of the standard characters, as she also scales well the more constellations you get like Tighnari.
5 Genshin - Diluc Diluc ・Thrives better with Xianyun on Plunging Attacks, and can reach the height of the best 5-star DPS with this playstyle. Otherwise, other limited Pyro characters like Arlecchino trumps over him.
6 Genshin - Keqing Keqing ・Great scaling with the best Dendro characters like Nahida, although if you already have someone like Clorinde or Alhaitham, they're the better picks for her supposed supports.
7 Genshin - Qiqi Qiqi ・Currently obsolete as there are even 4-star characters who provide more value and utility than her kit.

how do you know that?

If you have furina or kokomi and are also bad at dodging then a c1 (not required) dehya with the bell can double as a tank/shield and a vape damage dealer or sub dps if your hydro is on field (Use vourukasha for on field dehya and noblesse or tenacity for off-field) Do be warned as only specifically characters who don't require a normal attack to activate their hydro application will be applicable to dehya (basically just means no xingqiu yelan or Candace in terms of sub dps's)
