When Will the Next Expansion Set Release

We speculate that the next expansion set will release on April 30, 2025 in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket (PTCG Pocket). Read on to learn more about our thoughts on when the next expansion booster packs will be released, what they will be called, and what cards we might expect.

When is The Next Expansion Set To Release?

Our approximate release date is based on previous calendar releases and is subject to change based on official announcements.

Since the launch of Mythical Island in December, a new expansion has come out every month. However, we have noted that there was a 3 month or 12 to 13 week gap between the previous major expansions Genetic Apex and Space Time Smackdown. Additionally, the previous major expansion was released after its predecessor received a mini expansion.

Following this pattern, the next major expansion to be released after Shining Revelry will likely go live on April 30, 2025.

Since the previous expansion, Triumphant Light, is a mini expansion, the next one is likely going to be a major expansion similar to Genetic Apex and Space-Time Smackdown.

It will likely have several booster packs featuring the box legendaries or starters of their representative generation.

What to Expect in the Next Expansion

Similar Event Cycle to Previous Expansions

Space-Time Smackdown and Triumphant Light follow similar patterns in how they release their events. The first regular event of the update would be a Drop Event, followed by an Emblem Event, a Wonder Pick Event, and ending on a Mass Outbreak. We expect the next update to follow a similar cycle.

All New and Upcoming Events Schedule

Pokemon From Unrepresented Generations

Each major expansion focuses on a generation or region from the main series games, with the mini expansion succeeding it focusing on a Mythical Pokemon from that generation.

They might want to release a Generation VI pack closer to Pokemon Legends: Z-A's release, which makes them likely to focus on an earlier, unrepresented generation. Generations III and V do not have cards of their Mythical Pokemon in the game yet, so the next update may focus on either of them.

New Pokemon Tool Cards

Pokemon Tools are cards that the player can attach to their Pokemon to give them advantages in battles. They were introduced during the Space Time Smackdown expansion, but there are currently only three cards of this type in the game, with no new ones being released in the Triumphant Light and Shining Revelry mini expansions.

The next update may expand the Pokemon Tools roster in order to give players more options and ways of playing.
