Main Attacker | Bench Sniper | Description |
---|---|---|
Articuno ex | Greninja | ・Articuno ex's Blizzard and Greninja's Water Shuriken Ability allows you to deal damage to your opponent's active and benched Pokemon on each turn. |
Best Starting Hand |
---|
Having Articuno ex and all of Greninja's evolutions right away is the ideal start for the deck. Always play Articuno ex first and use Misty to attach Water Energy to Articuno for an attack.
Meanwhile, evolve Froakie to Frogradier in one turn, then evolve Frogradier to Greninja in the next turn, so you can take advantage of Greninja's Water Shuriken Ability.
Recommended Starting Hand |
---|
In the event that you start without Articuno ex in hand, play Froakie right away, then use Poke Ball to hopefully get Articuno ex. If you manage to get Articuno ex, use X Speed to make Froakie retreat with no cost and play with Articuno ex.
From there, evolve Froakie to Frogradier in one turn, then evolve Frogradier to Greninja in the next turn, so you can take advantage of Greninja's Water Shuriken Ability.

If you have Articuno ex and Misty in your starting hand, play Articuno ex right away, then use Misty to attach Water Energy to Articuno for an attack.
Once you have Greninja's evolution line, evolve them into Greninja but leave Greninja on the bench. Articuno ex will remain as your active Pokemon, attacking whenever possible. Use Greninja's Water Shuriken to deal 20 damage to one (1) of your opponent's Pokemon each turn.

Deck | Commentary |

Arcanine ex Decks |
・Arcanine ex can't OHKO Articuno ex. ・Greninja can consistently deal 20 damage to Arcanine ex each turn thanks to its Water Shuriken Ability on top of Arcanine ex's Inferno Onrush self-damage effect. .・ Arcanine ex also takes an additional 20 damage from Water-type Pokemon, putting it at a huge disadvantage. |
Deck | Commentary |
---|---|
Pikachu ex Decks |
・Pikachu ex can deal damage early on before Articuno ex can get ready. ・Both Greninja and Articuno ex are weak to Lightning-type Pokemon. |
Although the deck can definitely deal consistent damage each turn thanks to Greninja's Water Shuriken Ability, it does take a long time to setup properly due to Greninja being a Stage 2 evolution. The opponent can do a lot of things to disrupt and delay the setup.
Card | Explanation |
---|---|
Articuno |
・Non-ex Articuno gives the deck a non-ex option. ・Although determined by a coin flip, Ice Beam's paralyzing effect is a valuable asset to have in the deck. |
Card | Possible Cuts |
---|---|
Articuno |
・ Having a non-ex Articuno in the deck instead of X Speed is a favorable exchange since the deck's setup doesn't involve retreating. |

Having Tentacruel as another attacker option works well with the deck's setup. Tentacruel has a decent 110 HP and deals 50 damage per attack for low cost. It also inflicts poison to the opponent's active Pokemon, which can disrupt their setup since they have to put their active Pokemon to the bench in order to remove the infliction.
