Best Starting Hand

Best Starting Hand
Pokemon TCG Pocket- Psyduck(A1 057) Pokemon TCG Pocket- Staryu(A1 074) Pokemon TCG Pocket- Potion(P-A 001) Pokemon TCG Pocket- X Speed(P-A 002) Pokemon TCG Pocket- Professor

This starting hand is good whether you're going first or second, as it allows Staryu or Psyduck to evolve the following turn. Professor's Research allows you to dig two cards deeper for an evolution, while X Speed allows you to switch when necessary.

Other Good Starting Cards

Recommended Starting Hand
Pokemon TCG Pocket- Psyduck(A1 057) Pokemon TCG Pocket- Articuno ex(A1 084) Pokemon TCG Pocket- Misty(A1 220) Pokemon TCG Pocket- Potion(P-A 001) Pokemon TCG Pocket- X Speed(P-A 002)

Articuno ex is also a good starting Pokemon for the deck. Try your luck out with Misty, as one heads flip will allow you to T1 Ice Wing and T2 Blizzard. Having Psyduck or Staryu benched early is always a good thing, as they can evolve the following turn should you draw into their evolutions.

Strategy 1: Starmie Offense

Starmie Offense
A1 076
A1 058 A1 074 A1 084

You would ideally want your bench full as soon as possible, with Psyduck and Staryu ready to evolve early. Articuno ex can also be a decent meat shield if your opponent uses a Sabrina.

Strategy 2: Articuno Offense

A1 084

The deck can go all in on an Articuno ex strategy if your opening hand does not have Psyduck or Staryu. Having Misty would also be beneficial as a single heads flip can allow you to attack one turn earlier.

Flipping tails however, may put you a turn behind, necessitating a Starmie or Golduck to appear mid game.

Starmie ex Deck Best and Worst Matchups

Best Matchups

Water decks naturally match up favorably against Fire-type decks. The +20 damage is extremely meaningful, even when it's coming from a Staryu Smack hitting for 40 or Psyduck's Headache hitting for 30.

Worst Matchups

Pikachu decks are difficult to go against because all of the deck's Pokemon share a weakness to Lightning. Starmie ex's counterplay is to position itself for advantageous point trading and well placed switches.

Overall Consistency

This deck is able to set up attackers efficiently and with minimal effort. Although it sometimes relies on luck when it comes to playing Misty, it is not too heavily dependent on it and can function without it.

Starmie ex and Golduck pack a solid one-two and can 2HKO most Pokemon, while Articuno ex can also be a menace by itself once set up.
