Since Gholdengo ex's attack gets stronger the more Metal Energy is attached to it, a Metal Energy accelerator like Dialga ex is a great addition to the deck. Dialga ex can also stay in the Active Spot for as long as you need as it loads up Gholdengo ex with Energy.

![]() May (B1 223) |
![]() ![]() ・You can draw a second Dialga ex with May. ・May has a better chance of drawing Gholdengo ex as it can possibly be one of the bottom cards of your deck. |
![]() Mars (A2 155) ![]() Adaman (A2a 075) |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ・Mars is a good counter for when your Dialga ex is knocked out. ・You won't be able to reuse your Metal Core Barrier, but Adaman can cover for blocking damage. |
![]() Dusk Mane Necrozma (P-A 079) |
![]() ![]() ・Dusk Mane Necrozma can be used to take out any Pom-Pom Oricorio. ・Adding Dusk Mane Necrozma to your deck will reduce your chances of starting with Dialga ex, however. |

When playing a Gholdengo ex deck, make sure to have cards that can help with Metal Energy generation like Dialga ex and Orthworm to increase the highest possible damage of Spending Rush.
Have these accelerators stay on the Active Spot for as long as possible to buy time for Gholdengo ex as it sets up on the Bench.

Once Gholdengo ex is loaded with Energy, you can deal massive damage to your opponent's side of the board, regardless of whether they have only one or multiple Pokemon in play.
If your opponent only has one Pokemon in play, Spending Rush will funnel all damage instances on it, while having multiple Pokemon gives you a chance to sweep their Bench as well.

A direct counter to Gholdengo ex is discarding Energies from either Gholdengo ex itself or its Energy accelerators. Spending Rush doesn't have an upper damage limit and can be a guaranteed winning condition if left unchecked.
