This deck relies on Exeggutor ex for early and mid-game damage. Once Torterra is set up and ready, it can be brought in as a finisher, dealing a great amount of damage with Frenzy Plant.

Torterra is safer to set up on the Bench since it's a Stage 2 Pokemon with a steep Attack Cost. Exeggutor ex can be a good early game attacker to put in the Active Spot, as it can attack for just one Energy.

Since Torterra cannot use its move in consecutive turns, its survivability is important. Heal Torterra with Erika to avoid KOs before it can attack again.

You can counter Torterra decks by securing KOs before they can set up properly. This can be done with decks that can set up quickly and immediately attack.

Because of the Type advantage, powerful Fire-type Pokemon can KO Torterra and its other teammates in one or two hits.

You can take advantage of Torterra's lengthy setup by knocking out its pre-evolutions. Sabrina and Cyrus can draw them out, but you can also use cards that can damage Benched Pokemon such as Genetic Apex Hitmonlee.
